If you've never been to Chumpae before, take the time one day to check it out.
Its a great place to enjoy Issan that is still remained quite traditional and has a real personality.
It has everything you need there like a Tesco and kfc, But they are on the way out of town so you hardly notice them.
So where to stay in Chumpae?
I've stayed in a few of the 6 or so hotels, and I've decided the best is one of the cheapest.
The Sri Suppan Hotel on the road to Si Chompu for me is the best of the bunch. Its only 560baht a night including a basic breakfast of toast, coffee and kow tom.
The rooms are very clean, basic but comfortable but like 99% of Thai hotels the beds are a little bit firm, but not hard.
The staff are lovely people, but English is next to none.
Anyway the real gem of this hotel is the karaoke/restaurant down next to the entrance.
They have kept the same chefs for several years now. I'm picky on what I eat but these guys cook the best Issan/ Thai food ever!
The prices are really great so it's not uncommon for us to over order and be surrounded by the delicious food. To top the food off, the waiting staff are the most attentive bunch I think I've ever seen. They usually hang around and spot you've finished your drink and will quickly fill it back up. Its like having your own personal waiter or waitress!
So after you completely stuff yourself with food and drink and melt into your chair, locals will filter in about 8pm for a night of karaoke. Surprisingly a well behaved bunch who just enjoy singing!
So all in all, a great place to stay in Chumpae. I give them 10 out of 10 .
