Fon drew her finger across her cheekbone, drawing out the shape that she wished she was, rather than the shape that Buddha made her. One of her friends had two teeth removed, the "Mongolian extras," the dentist had called them. Fon reckoned the dentist was joking - Thai people were Tai, nothing to do with Mongolia. Why would they have extra Mongolian teeth?
It had made a difference to her friend, though. All the boys were now paying more attention to her, with her glittering diamante inserts on her braces, and her new slim line face. All Fon had to do was get the money to pay the dentist for the extraction and braces - thirty-thousand baht, how was she going to do that? That thought lingered in her head, but now another defect popped up.

Four months she had been fishing for a foreign sponsor, four months of weirdos and penis pics.
