Fans of George Cole (Arthur Daley) may enjoy this BCCT event One of Britain’s best-loved comedy and dramatic actors, George Cole, passed away at the age of 90 several weeks ago. His most recognisable character was the cockney ‘spiv’ Arthur Daley in ten series of Minder in the 80s and 90s. Tonight we are showing the rarely seen film version ‘Minder on the Orient Express’ first screened in UK on Christmas Day 1985. Supported by his ‘Minder’ Terry McCann played by Dennis Waterman, Arthur is chased across Europe by numerous villains and his arch nemeses Detective Sergeants cheerful ‘Charlie’ Chisholm and Ronnie Rycott. But first we present one of Cole’s early films, The Belles of St Trinian’s, a comedy film set in the fictional St Trinian's School, released in 1954. Headmistress Millicent Fritton (Alastair Sim) has an unorthodox teaching philosophy, letting her students run wild. Cole plays cockney spiv Flash Harry, a former school employee, who is behind numerous nefarious schemes at the school. Flash Harry provided the genesis of the Arthur Daley character. Date: Thursday 10 September 2015 Time: 6.00 - 9.30 pm Films: Tribute to George Cole - The Belles of St. Trinian's and Minder on the Orient Express Venue: British Business Centre, BCCT, 7th Floor 208 Wireless Road (nearest BTS is Ploenchit Station exit 5) Cost: THB 350 net per person including snacks, soft, beer and wine. I have actually got all of the original St.Trinians films as well as Minder on the Orient Express too in my collection. If you search or are a member of a decent torrent site all are available for free. Well only the cost of the internet time and the power used, say around 5 baht maximum. One does wonder what the original source may be or have been for the films advertised!! As an aside if you were to contact our member saim who is a cyber friend of old who has his own torrenting site I am sure you'll find an invitation to join would be forthcoming.
I do watch U.K. T.V live but a lot of material I like is freely available on line for download, no streaming problems or time zones to worry about as a bonus too.
