Andrew stood at the open front door waiting for Daddy to arrive. He'd been gone for ages, years, Andrew thought - but when you're four a week can seem like a year. Andrew loved his Dad, loved playing with him, wrestling with him, and loved the stories of Scotland.
"You're half-Thai, half-Scottish," Daddy had said, "But the best half is Scottish." That always drew a look from Meh. "And when you grow up, you'll play for Scotland at the World Cup! You'll score the winning goal!" Andrew liked the sound of that, and the idea of going with Daddy to see Scotland. He was disappointed when Daddy said he had to go without him. Andrew thought he had done something wrong, as Daddy looked angry when he said he couldn't go this time - maybe in the future - not now.
Meh looked at her phone, Daddy was due back on the 12.30 flight. He should be home by now - home after sorting out his little "money problem," back home. The phone flashed:
"Nung, I'm sorry, I'm not coming back."

The next day Meh had to tell little Andrew, Daddy wasnt his real daddy.
But his dreams could still be fulfilled, his real father was Tik from Cambodia/Neut from Laos, and both of these countries have as much chance as Scotland will ever have of playing at the World Cup.
Little Andy went to sleep a happy leuk kreung that night and dreamt of scoring a world cup goal for his adopted homeland.
Pass me the bottle of Lao kao and go get my effin dinner on Tik shouted to his mia noi, Meh knew better than answer back.
As she entered the kitchen, she wondered how it could all have gone so wrong, up in her part of Isaan no-one has ever heard of various farang Thai based forums. DNA doesnt translate into Thai.
Next morning she would be sure to get round to see Khun Yai/Pha (making sure to wear sunglasses to hide the bruised eyes from the night before, not forgetting to wear long trousers to hide the bruises on her shins) Khun Yai had assured her it would all be ok, hand over 100k baht and the title deeds to the farm and she would be guaranteed a farang mug to "take care"
What Khun Yai and Meh didnt know, the word had got out, farangs were talking openly about sick buffalo stories, and sin sot scams.
Never mind back to the drawing board and Khun Yai would create yet another fake faceache page, only 10k baht na ka.
