I'd describe it as: - reluctance to disturb or bother someone whether literally or emotionally; a deference to someone else's thoughts, feelings or "face" and putting them before your own thoughts, feeling or face. Often from a lower status person deferring to a higher status person or equal to equal. It can be a pain in the backside in the work place among other areas, as rather than speak up or do what needs doing etc people don't want to disturb or bother or potentially cause a problem for someone else so they say or do nothing... particularly a pain when you want ideas feedback or want someone to correct mistakes. So in such situations it can help to request "don't greng jai me" BTW for transliterating I'd write greng jai or kreng jai. I prefer the first but the second is also common where people use k for g sound and kh for k sound. Cheers Fletch
