Talking to my Bangladeshi friend.
He is married to my neighbour"s daughter.
"Tough coming in?"
He is Buddhist, as if I care!
We had a great talk!
Some facts; he is a business man, trading and not short of the readies.

Ask him if he's ever met Ronnie Pickering?

Just had a Pickering moment.
Could not contain myself any longer.
Worded very carefully.
Thailand is a mess and not the fun place it used to be.
Yes I am older, but it is the small things.
I observe the minutiae and the greed and materialism has reached new heights.
Now our local afternoon , evening wet market has been closed for yet another condom!
My beautiful balcony view will be next.
The owner asked if I wanted to buy the land.
Idiot, I pointed out I am not permitted to and do not have that sort of money anyway.
Pastures turned to concrete for cash.
Sad.

Back to the fresh market.
I asked my wife if she was aware it was about to close, she did not and neither did our neighbours. Some must have been in the know, as I am sure the stoolholders would have told their customers. It was undertaken rapidly, no time for protests.
The market was important to this area there is a morning market in the nearby town, but that is finished by mid day.
People around here came home from work and bought their supplies for the evening meal. It was always packed at 6 pm. I bought salad ingredients there, cheap and fresh,no added price for the local farang.
A sad loss. Sure 7/11 is happy, I think they own the plot.
As most commuters travel via Udom Suk, they will shop there as it is a changeover point for the local baht bus.
For those of us that never thought about where to buy of an evening, a tragedy, destruction of the community.
My wife always shops at the town market a 6 am, why she was not aware, and for us it is not a disaster, but another piece of old Thailand lost!
