I've wanted to get one for a while now and they're getting cheaper.
Found a model that shoots film linked to a smartphone which looks cool for about 350 dollars.
Not sure what's what though. Would a 350 dollar drone be a waste of money? I mean I don't want to spend a grand but I don't want to waste 350 on something that might be junk either.

My boys have two, heaps of great fun. Drone Wars takes on whole new meaning. It's a little subculture here, some are really expensive things capable of flying over the harbour on a computer programmed flight path. Awesome stuff. Definitely not toys. My hubby bought them cost under USD2000 a piece when they first came out. You can link them somehow to a smartphone, I have no idea I'm no tecchie or you can do a live link thing on Weibo not sure how that works either. Sophisticated bits of machinery but you can't fly them just anywhere or you need a permit etc. The HK police had a field day with ours, had them confiscated and were fined  accidentally flew them up the government building in Wanchai . If this was mainland China they'd be setting out the SWAT team for spying. |

They should either be banned or used in controlled areas only.
Wait til the first one gets sucked down an aircraft engine intake and the owner is then presented with the engine overhaul bill.

They are banned here in the airport, government areas. Good point though. They are definitely not toys. The things they can do spins me out some and I bet people will do just because they can. The more sophisticated ones you can buy they will run a police check on you.
