Your psychic Blether, just 30 mins ago I looked in an old wallet and found some Dirhum, and you being a frequent flyer with Emirates are the man to ask.
How much is a pint of Stella at the airport there these days?
I have 35 Dirhum, last time I went it was 33...will it but me a pint?

A pint of water the way prices have gone now That's one of the benefits of lounge access - all you can drink, free.

Weird tip/good story.
On of the things I love about Emirates is their customer service and flexibility, particularly when you are Gold status. I was in Shanghai, having flown there from BKK using China Southern airlines. I emailed Emirates and customer service called me - my request was to return from Shanghai direct rather than having to fly to BKK to pick up my return flight. Five minutes and £75 later, my flight was arranged - easy.
I couldn't get into business class on the flight I wanted, and even the next flight was booked in the same class. Here's the tip -
I sat beside another guy who couldn't get a biz class seat. He told me that Emirates have a "quiet," company policy which is:
If you tried to book the flight previous, and it was fully booked, and if you had a long stopover ( I think that's six hours ) and further - as long as the flight you are on is longer than 8 hours - Emirates would put you up in a hotel free of charge. The flight from Shanghai to Dubai was 8 hours 5 minutes. He told me to approach customer service and chance it.
The girl looked at my stopover time ( 22 hours, I had just missed the only daily flight to Glasgow ) - looked at the flight tie ( qualified ) - and then the nerve wracking bit. I knew biz class was full, was economy full? Bingo - it was -
"Here's your complimentary booking for the Millennial Hotel, vouchers for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a snack voucher, and your courtesy coach is over there," said the girl.
Result.
I got to the hotel, crashed out - went for dinner, then took a tour of the city, ( I remember that being $29.00 ). It was just pure luck that I sat next to that guy, as I would never have thought of doing what he suggested.
On another occasion I fancied spending a dew days in Dubai, so cleared immigration and went to book a hotel on the concourse.
"No hotels rooms in Dubai, sir - a big conference and trade fair."
Miffed at hearing that I decided to forego the visit, and walked up to the Emirates Desk. Again, within five minutes, they had swapped my flight to the morning flight to Glasgow. I went into the silver lounge, ( now closed ), which was far better than the main business lounge, and crashed out on the upper level. I don't rate the main business lounge in DXB at all. I've been in better and more comfortable service stations. The silver lounge, which was located across from the Irish pub ( 12 euros for a pint of Guinness in there. from memory ) - was tiny in comparison, but had better food, service, facilities and most importantly, a quiet area.
The new business lounge at the A380 terminal is great - not brilliant, just great. Then again, flying on the 380 is great, whether it;s biz or economy - and the bar is biz is the dogs bollocks.

Last time I tried entering one of them I was refused, shown my card but after looking at my ticket, they said "your flying pikey class, I can't let you in Sir", even though I flew BC to get there.
I walked away with my tail between my legs and seen a family of scruffy looking pikeys approaching, they got through no problem.
Newer felt as dejected ever, even after a bargirl turned down my offer of a fun night on the town for 1000 baht.
Anyway lots of halal butchers in Dubai so my tip would be try and find some nice halal pork ribs and have a BBQ on the beach with a pinay hooker.

I posted this story before, but its worth repeating.
I landed in Dubai during the holy month of ramadan.
The young girl checked my ticket and passport, and laughed, she then said, sorry sir the bar is closed, its ramadan. However, our kithcen is open, anything you need?
Give me a six pack of heineken and two steak sandwiches i replied.
No problem sir.
By the time I had checked in and the jingly had carried the bags to the room, another jingly awaited with a silver tray, under which were to sannies and a six pack, enjoy he said.
Dubai, great place, but expensive.

Dubai, great place, but expensive. Yup, I'm expecting a couple of days of pain, then again I'm not bothered as it's my fiftieth birthday in March. May as well have a blow out. On the bright side my parents normally give me a few grand for my birthday so I'll just write that off against the extravagance. To be fair I didn't think the hotel was dear - £400 for three nights for an executive suite. My lady is flying in a few hours before me so she has the irritation of waiting to get checked in ( she'll arrive at 8.00 a.m. - I'll be there about 2.30 ). Our first night will be the Burj Al Khalifa after dark, 600 dirhams for the two of us. I've seen the city enough from the air by day - and I've seen it be hazy, so I'll pass on the daytime experience, which is a ridiculous 1000 dirhams for two. I don't know what to do with myself on the Friday and Saturday - I think a trip to the desert could be on the cards. Anyway, that's me all booked up - setting aside the couple of months in Thailand it will be, Tokyo, Osaka, Yangon, Mandalay, Ayuttayah, Hong Kong, Macau, Kanchanaburi, BKK, Dubai, back to Glasgow then - Benidorm. Effin Benidrom with my Mum and Dad. I can't complain, though - I'm lucky to have them.

Atlantis Hotel. Dragonmart. I could go on. It's the Las Vegas of the M.E. If you've got money and are into over the top then that's the place to be.
Expensive.
