Following the record "Bike for Mom" cycling event on August 16 that drew several hundred thousands of Thais across the country to come out and take part in biking as a show of love, loyalty and respect to Her Majesty the Queen on her birthday anniversary, the second larger event "Bike for Dad" is now on the schedule.
But this time, it will be a worldwide event with Thais living abroad joining the event simultaneously with their fellow Thais in the country coming out for their beloved King on his 88th birthday anniversary.
The logo used for Bike for Dad will be in three English letters ” Dad” which was handwritten by the Crown Prince in three colours. The first “D” written in yellow bronze colour will represent the King, the “a” letter in blue will represent the queen, while the last “d” letter in yellow will represent the Crown Prince, according to PM’s Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul at the press conferences to announce the cycling event.
The event will start from December 11-13 with activities to celebrate the King’s birthday anniversary at the Royal Plaza. But the highlight will be on the first day when the cycling event will take place along the 29-kilometre long loop route.
There will be four main processions joining the “Bike for Dad” biking in Bangkok.
At the press conference, ML Panadda Diskul said Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead the “A” procession of cyclists from the Royal Plaza on December 11.
The Crown Prince will lead altogether 500 senior government officials and members of the public in the “A” Procession, while Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha will lead 500 government officials and the people in the “B” Procession, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana will lead the “C” Procession of another 500 officials and people.
The “D” Procession will be for the 100,000 bikers who register to join the biking via at www.bikefordad2015.com from November 2-10,” he said.
The “S” Procession will be for 100 members of the medical service and bike repair service team escorting the processions.
The 29-kilometre route will begin from Royal Plaza along Ratchaprarop Road, the Pratunam intersection, the Ratcharaprasong intersection, Pathumwan Road, Silom Road, Yaowarat Road, Wong Wian Yai Road, Arun Amarain Road, the Siriraj intersection, Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue before arriving back at the Royal Plaza.
Similar cycling events will be held in other provinces, and abroad. The parades will start at City Hall in each province and cover around 29 kilometres, while in overseas the cycling will take off from Thai embassy to places of memorial in each country.
Thais in 67 countries will join the event.
The Crown Prince initiated the hugely successful “Bike for Mom” on August 16 to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. The event was entered in the Guinness World of World Records as the largest-ever bicycle parade.
