I live in a city with some outstanding old and modern architecture - and places like Edinburgh are outstanding. I wander the streets with my eyes looking up at the detail builders of the past put together. The Forth Rail Bridge is a fave, partly because of the feat of engineering that it was - Another fave. strangely, is the Glasgow Necropolis -

Best architecture for me has to be Venice.
See Venice and die.
The place is absurd, should not exist; built on piles of rotting wood in a lagoon. That in itself defies logic.

As someone who has done The Loire Valley, some of those French chateaux are mind blowing.
Chenonceau and Chambord are two that spring to mind.
Never been there, but would love to visit some of those Ethiopian churches.
The Pyramids and Sphinx take some beating.
Although an athesit some of those Sacred Geometry places like The Acropolis in Greece are worth a visit.
And lets not forget our very own St Pauls Cathedral, the engineering required, flying buttresses are something to marvel at.

The marvel of St Paul's is the flying buttresses are hidden and the dome is not a sphere, but a sphere placed on , oh shit not an architect, but placed on a supporting non spherical support. What you see outside is not what you think you see inside. An optical illusion. The buttresses are hidden and can only be seen from above. Clever bloke Wren.

I'm not into architecture, although once upon a time walking through Barcelona I really admired some of Gaudi's work.

In that case may I suggest a visit to Issan, there are some right gaudy Farang Mcmansions up that way, complete with faux Grecko/Roman columns. If you cant make it up that far, try the back sois of Ekamai/Thong Lor, its a sight for sore eyes,

I'll tell you what aren't my personal favourites: The coathanger that doubles as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and that monstrosity which looks like a bunch of broken eggshells and passes itself off as the Sydney Opera House. Iconic structures too. Just a fond p**stake, Aussies will understand.

Please wait for Blether to come along and explain the virtues of probably one of the eye sores of his city, he knows it as The Armadillo, what a effin sight for sore eyes.

A thread about hideous structures would get more replies no doubt. The Arma what? This gawdawful excuse for a building in Shanghai for example, The Oriental Pear Tv Tower, which is a phallic symbol revered by ladies and homosexuals and is also identified as a hydroponic syringe by druggies, is the city's trademark building.

^^^, gotta love Chinese ingenuity, looks as if they ripped of Thunderbirds.
Thankfully no one can rip off Lady Penelope.
Although I will admit that gawdawful K POP has tried.

Back to Shanghai after that minor interruption, this is my fave there: the Art Deco inspired Jin Mao Tower. A stunningly executed building.

I thought The Thunderbirds actually under utilised her. I think your girl Stacey tries to model herself on Lady P.
