Jaywalkers posts about a guy taking advantage reminded me of this story ( good to see you here, Jaywalker ).
....................................................................................
There was an alcoholic in Chiang Mai - a guy that arrived in Thailand around 2006 with five million baht in his pocket - and I would say he was aged around 40 at the time. He was a decent enough guy, but he was deep in the grip of the demon drink.
Safe to say he blew through the money until he eventually found himself penniless. At this point, he moved into a 2,000 baht a month room, and started to pressure his sister for help. She sent money a few times, then the lies started about him wanting to return to the UK - and needing 20,000 baht to do so ( overstay fine ) plus flight cost. More than once she paid the ticket and sent him the money - as soon as he got the cash - straight back on the drink. His sister wasted thousands funding his lies.
Then, of course - cos he was a nice guy other expats would help him out with a few baht, and he would drink on their tab. There were always plenty of newbies on the go to keep him well lubricated.
One of my pals, an extraordinarily generous man who doesn't have much but would give you his last, arranged to pay for the overstay and to walk said alcoholic through immigration and onto the plane. Three times they arranged to meet -three times the alcoholic didn't show.
The last time, my pal was traveling back to the UK himself - he boarded a flight to BKK and by the time he arrived received a sour message -
"You've abandoned me here."
My pal was appalled. Anyway - what happened next was that the alcoholic was arrested twice, and it beats me how he got out of jail the first time, then delivered to IDC and this time, was deported at his sisters expense. He arrived back at her place and sent a message to anyone that would listen -
"I hate Thailand, and I'll never step foot in the country again."
Excellent. One less alcoholic sponger to annoy the rest of us.

Man - I can't believe I just used an exclamation mark in a post - I hate exclamation marks.
Anyway - the key point to that wee story is that it was someone elses fault.
"You've abandoned me here."
"I hate Thailand, and I'll never step foot in the country again."
Uhuhu -
Never mind the multiple acts of kindness by Thai and strangers - never mind the sister blowing a fortune on lies - never mind my pal turning up three times willing to walk him through immigration and onto the plane -
Someone else to blame.

Sorry Blether, years ago the same said sad sap used to live in Bkk, same story same old shyt.
The lads had a whip round and bought him a ticket back home.
That night in the local watering hole, same sad twat was sat with two of Soi Cowboys finest, he had cashed in the ticket at some dodgy travel agent.
To top things off, he was trying to bum the money from us to pay for these two slags, he was thrown out on his effin ear.
I heard he may have moved up country where you ran into him.
For those doubting the veracity of the story, it took place in MacAlisters Bar suk soi 20 about 10 years ago.

I think there's more than one knocking about Comical in it's cheek - one notorious guy was sitting nursing a cold coffee in a local cafe. Another guy came in, said hi, and was invited to join cold coffee guys table. Lunch was ordered, beer started flowing - and when the large bill came at the end - our perp said: "I'm not paying that bill, it was you that joined me."

^^^^, I posted this story before on another forum, cant be assed typing it in its full, please accept the abridged version.
Balloon chasers venture into a bar on soi LK in Pattaya.
Party in full flow, food on the pool table, help yourself buffett.
Two coffin dodger freeloader types no one has ever seen before rock up, D do you know these guys, never met them, lets see what happens.
Pikey prick #1, soda water please. Pikey #2, sprite please.
They leave the bar and avail themselves of the free nosh, no problem.
Problemo #1 comes, they are spotted in the gents toilet pouring scotch eggs, sausage rolls, etc etc into some tuppaware plastic they had brought with them.
Marched up to the bar, the girl whose birthday it was was walking around with the garland, same said pikeys tried to palm her of with a red one, sorry lads, wrong colour.
Best make it at least purple, EACH.
Never mind, they frequent other forums telling tales of pikery and how cheap Thailand is, in their dreams.

Check out Pikey Central opposite Mikes in Pattaya, make sure to bring a camera, no one would believe you. Scroungers, I have no problem with, they some times amuse me, but effin freeloading pikey types p**s me right off. Too be honest they were lucky they werent in a certain bar across the soi, where the owner had a reputation for belting his customers.
