Hi Folks, I throw myself at your feet as I have been a very slack forum participant since signing up. I am unworthy. You know how it is, one leaves Thailand and suddenly you're busy on a bunch of new things. Still very much planning to move back but have a few issues to get done with first.
Anyway my mind was suddenly brought back to Thailand the other day when George of Thaivisa fame sent me an invitation to connect on linkedin.com. Immediately curious I researched to find that Thaivisa had been sold some months ago. I was just wondering how that has affected TV and the Thailand online forum situation generally. Are, for example, the same zany censorious characters still working as moderators at TV, or have they been shown the door?
Since leaving Thailand I have also be doing an increasing amount of reading about gender issues/mens rights and feminism. I was wondering if there has been much discussion of this sort of stuff amongst expats or whether they are sufficiently insulated about all the craziness going on in the west to be unconcerned about it.

Insulated from it, . My wife wont allow me into the kitchen, should I be concerned, am I being suppressed by a Fem Nazi? Love the way the Thais talk to each other, those of a PC mindset had best not learn the language. Was up at my local watering hole one night, one of the Somcahis shouted to the owner, อ้วน.........เบียร์สิงห์สอง, fatso... two bottles of Singha. As for insulated, I find large quantities of beer helps insulate me from the madness.

Nice to hear from you mate.
Doesn't seem much change to TVF. I used to post mainly on the business section and occasionally family and general as you know, some of the "safer" sections . The main change I noticed on the business section was that quite a few people had lost interest when a certain Polish person arrived selling his "financial expertise" without any real credentials. As he was a sponsor anyone who disagreed with him or pointed out the flaws in what he was claiming got a warning, suspension or banning, even people who actually knew what they were talking about and exposed the inaccuracies and gaps in his claims. Shame really as they were losing and ejecting long term posters just because of this guy. Added to that several sock puppets who'd never been on the board arrived simply to flame and troll long term posters and support this guy to try and sell things to the unsuspecting.
I'm happy to say though that since the new ownership, certain of the Polish guy's threads selling his dubious wares have disappeared, and the place seems to be getting back to normal (whatever that is in Thailand ), albeit a bit quieter given the casualties and loss of goodwill. Plus in the great scheme of life not exactly a major event.
On the gender rights/ equality yes you're right we're pretty much isolated from a lot of those angry issues that are best left in the west Actually what the country needs is our youngest to grow up and put them all to rights . She's very quick with the the banter and likely runs rings round most guys. Just the sort of strong young lady the country could do with. Only a couple of minor drawbacks to being Prime Minister: 1) She's too honest and 2) at 7 she doesn't yet have a degree - that oh so essential Thai politician requirement
Look forward to seeing more of you around here and also catching up when you're finally back in Thailand
Cheers Fletch

Hi, On the gender relations issue, here's an article that might strike a chord with expats: sexualobjectification.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/feminists-versus-yellow-fever.html. And yes the Thai approach to the matter, and the relatively low profile of feminism there, is one of many things I miss about the place. Not sure when we'll be able to get back, but we're just lucky in that my wife's family lives close to our place and keeps it ship-shape. I especially like to be there this time of year as we sometimes go up into the hills and stay in a cabin. One place at Doi Inthanon in particular, appeals (http://cbtnetwork.org/?page_id=95) There's not much there but something about the atmosphere of the place ... hmm

I'm sure the back room at TV is as backstabbing and devious as it ever was....however the seeming demise of king macpolak is a relief to that board as that guy was leaking and seeing banned many outside the financial pages as well.
The idiots are mostly still there unfortunately....as I suspected change is slow....but not as slow as their servers these days....expect a whole lot of ads to pay that half a million quid back!

I'd rather buy half a mill worth of Chang, drink 12 and throw the rest away than own tvf. I feel sickly thinking about it actually.
Anyhoo, back to my midday nap.
