TM 30. The guy who thinks he is a mod writes, "You don't need to do anything. It's up to the owner of the house. You've nothing to do or worry about." The mod who knows what he is talking about writes, "The apartment owner or manager is responsible for doing the report. Unless you have to go for an extension of your entry you really don't need to worry about the report being done. But if only a exempt or tourist visa entry extension Bangkok normally does not ask for the TM30." The mod who is trying to stir up shi# writes, "It is not true that only the owner of of the apartment can submit the form TM.30. The law considers you to be the 'house master" because you are the "chief possessor" of the dwelling "in the capacity of tenant". If you chose to submit the TM.30 in your own name I suggest that below your signature you encircle the text "POSSESSOR OR RESIDENCE", which, allowing for the obvious typing error, means possessor of residence, ie you, the tenant" Then there is a lady now involved with the CM expats club who trolls, "Chiang Mai Immigration is now saying that every time you leave the country and re-enter, there should be a new TM 30 filed. No need if you travel around the country and return home, even if you stay in a hotel that presumably filed a TM 30 for you." And another expat who has had many questionable posts writes, "My wife filed a TM30 for me today at rhe old Immigration department in CM,no fine but a stern warning that if I leave LOS and return she has to file another one within 24 hours, which is a bit of a bummer as I always go stay with my son and grandson on the way back from the UK twice a year, guess I won't be able to do that in future. All these new hoops....what a pain in the but" and, "I'm really confused about all of this?" Back to the Sh## stirring mod who says, "Immigration's data base would show them if you stayed in hotels, ie if hotels have notified immigration of your arrival." So these folks are trying to start a new procedure and a new form for expats, TM 30 and convince us that somehow there is a database that tracks expat movements in Thailand. I'm not clear where you guys are tryin' to take this. A buddy in CM went up to Mae Sai last week to do whatever he had to and found out about the TM28 / TM30 thing. He phoned me and told me he got the usual run-around from CM Immigration "not this office - you go to old office" etc etc. He eventually found the right place and was told he had to report change of address within 24 hours (apparently, he moved home last week), but Immi Officer was in a good mood and told him no charge this time - next time he would be fined if outside 24 hours. The officer then asked where the landlord / landlady was with their TM30. Good luck with that! He says the house-owner lives in Bangkok. So it seems Immigration, at least in CM, really are trying to tighten up on this bit of paperwork, probably to extort more money from folks like my buddy. I'm hoping the guys here in CR aren't going to bother their asses in the same way.

He thinks from that that all others who post here what is done elsewhere or new is wrong, One day he may find he is wrong and try to tell the Immigration that. I understand what you are getting at. I've lived in BKK, CM and Pattaya and dealt with immigration in those three places. I also have a number of friends in BKK, CM and Pattaya (VFW posts). I suggested a number of times to mods in the visa forum on TV that they have a sub forum in each area so rumors would not be started by one or two rogue immigration officers but was met with warnings as a result of that suggestion. What is going on now is TV mods and posters are trying to convince the posters that a TM 30 is a form to be filled out by farangs. It's not. It is a form for Thai hotel owners. Ya, ya ya I've heard all the rest. So in answer to your question, no I'm not writing from my own limited experience. Are you? Or are you an immigration official or agency rep?

In reading TV visa information this is what I've discovered about trolls.
1. They never relate own stories - always a friend. 2. Never tell you where/which office. 3. Call Jomtien office Chonburi 4. Post information about marriage extensions in retirement extension threads. 5. Make a big deal on calling a retirement visa a retirement extension (even though everyone knows the difference). 6. Never/rarely start topics. 7. Never relate own nationality. 8. Post in every topic about TM 30, home visits and address reporting threads. 8. Have three support posters waiting in the wings. 9. Always take wife to immigration office.
Ya all feel free to add any I missed.
For example in a current thread about Jomtien.
Poster a. Just did my O extension last week. No tm30 or address proof required at jomtien.
Poster b. they ask now for proof of address that they will staple in your passport.
Poster c. Well, they have signs posted all over the joint about a requirement about proof of residence....they will take copies the first time so no need to bring additional paperwork with you each visit.????
So, who do you believe? a, b or c?

The root of the issue is money - There are people on another visa forum dedicated to disseminating half-truths and rumours. I've noticed these people in the past and wondered what their motivation was to lurk on that forum waiting for a chance to pounce. It's well known that inconsistency of service and application of rules permeates local immigration officers. Yes, I'm prepared to believe that the CM office has asked "someone," for this form. I'm even prepared to believe that they have asked many people. cmk's point is that the request, if made at all, is a local issue - people attending other offices in the last few days were not asked. So what's the agenda? cmk contests and I'm prepared to believe him that sock puppet accounts are being used to spread fear and alarm in the hope of driving retirees into the arms oif visa agents. I'm a bit more cynical. I believe there are some sick bastids out there that enjoy causing alarm among this older demographic.

One of the frequent visa posters is on a marriage visa and says it upsets him because retirement visas are easier (no home visit and such) so he posts on every retirement thread trying to mix up the two types of visas with the home visit requirement. Unless you ask him what visa and where he is applying he pretends he has applied for numerous retirement extensions. Angry mean man trying to upset the old folks. The only problem I ever had is when I took a GF to help me. The imm officer say my hooker GF and decided to try and shake me down. That was 8 years ago. Since then I go to imm by myself and dodder around alone till they get done.

^^ There's plenty of people out there that wake every morning determined to spread bile and to conduct petty vendettas.
Pitiful creatures.

The main culprits are in truth the mods in the other place, socially inadequate egotistical missing links worthy of the attentions of Darwin to assist in proving his ''missing link'' theory.

When your agenda veers anywhere but the line of truth you are going to pick up these characters. We should get a simple straightforward visa guide going here....but don't look at me....I have holidays to enjoy !

Truth be told - the mods need to look at the cost/reward column.
You'd need to pay me a minimum of 100,000 baht a month to mod that forum.
Especially when I knew that the real money was kicked upstairs.
You'd need to be a mug to work for nothing in a for-profit commercial enterprise.
Man, you'd earn 60,000 baht a month working in McDonalds in the UK.
Working for nothing????????
One born every minute.
Fools.
Beyond parody.
