I cannot believe the vandalism perpetrated against the people of Chiang Mai by these stupid drinks laws.
Far too may top class restaurants and bars have been decimated. One of my fave restaurants has been razed to the ground as it fell foul of the 300 metre rule. That family has relocated miles away and are starting again.
Disgraceful that they have to.

Crazy isn't it. No compensation, just a get out and take your restaurant/bar/club with you!

I hope these vile establishments remain outside the city and far better tourist style attractions like lace shops, art galleries and pottery workshops take their place.

I'm gutted on behalf of these people who built up businesses for years then lost them overnight.
Damned shame to say the least.

What's the 300m rule? For the uneducated thanks. No booze to be sold within 300 metres of any school. But, there's exceptions to the rules. Apparently tourist areas escape the law.

Seriously? You learn something new every day. That can't be right. What about all those TEFLERS buying beer in 7/11 and going to classes. That I've seen many times in BKK.

Two of the best businesses in Chiang Mai were wiped out overnight. Between them they employed 80 people - and I would hazard a guess they saw 500 customers per night. Obliterated due to the 300 metre rule.

1 guy was saying Walking street in Pattaya was within 300 metres of a school.
Strangely the whole street escaped the law.

What's the 300m rule? For the uneducated thanks. It is a non existant rule but was a proposal that alchohol should not be sold within 300 metres of an educational establishment. It was proposed but changed and enacted to near to. I wonder how many of the places that the op claims closed because of it were legal anyway and whether other factors apply.
