Do you want the Aus price comparison? Cooked whole chicken $11 or approx 275 baht. Cooked whole chicken in HK around HK17 what's that, about three dollars something. From Wellcome. I guess the point is some of the Aussie chickens actually think they are worth the higher price. Remember that guy, "medium paced bowler?" he did too if I remember correctly.

Free range chickens are expensive in Oz same as free range eggs. When suspicions of bird or swine flu get around in HK basically you can't buy it or you can buy it at ridiculous prices. I'm not that keen on lamb with peas, mint sauce and all, leg of lamb though is lovely.

I bought a wrack of frozen ribs or chops ( maybe my missus chopped them) 1.1kg for HK$ 210 for the barbie , that must be about US$ 25 per kg. They were marinated with rosemary, garlic and soda water then cooked on the barbie for our solstice dinner . They turned out really nice and even a few Thai folks had a taste. I thought it was good value for money and will do them again.

Nice twist the soda water. I like a white wine marinade with garlic, rosemary.

The soda water is a tenderiser and did just that . I took them out of the marinade sauce and placed them in a nice dish ( as instructed ) at the barbie bar and they looked good all lined up nice n' ready for the fire.

I'm not sure about such a big price difference. Pork leg roast $7 a kg Chicken breast $9 a kg Lamb roast $9 a kg Prices from Coles supermarket catalogue. Try buying it when it is not on sale at Coles. Also try buying anything other than roast. My cousin is a butcher-he says a lot of "lamb" that is advertised in the big chain supermarkets is actually mutton. Most of the good stuff is exported. Chump chops for example are anywhere between $20-$40 per kilo.

Lamb you say? Now I'm not a lamb fan but the price of croc is going down. Before I left HK a nice little croc you could make steaks out of was going for HK49/jin not bad. They'd even whack it over the head for you and cut it up if you asked. A nice whole croc roast, macerated overnight and stuffed is really great in the Weber. Can't buy it in Sydney sadly and I did go hunting in Chinatown. Surprised you can't find it in Sydney. We can get it in Adelaide at game meat type shops. It is readily available if you know where to look. I bought some last week, as well as kangaroo.

Have seen the same in swanky shopping malls, mutton dressed as lamb. personally I love a good mutton curry.

No time to look for it really but New Year definitely. The thing with coming back to Sydney so much changes in a short space of time. Holidays everything costs more. Kangaroo is great, have a great Christmas Julia.
