I'm afraid to become a negpat, but that's one of the reasons I'm thinking of bailing out of the country. The environment where we live should always represent the values we believe in. Thailand used to be one of those places, but it is less and less by the time goes by. The same did happen to me when I was living in Singapore. Very functional country, but so damn dull. Thailand is not dull, but is unfunctional country. There must be balance in some place. I liked Singapore, seemed dull until I found my way around. Great place for just hopping on a plane to go other places too. Planes run on time , and not difficult to get to the airport. So had a lot of away trips like Indo, Malaysia, Philippines. Liked Indonesia too, when single, although wouldn't exactly call it functional. Not so great for families though if you're foreign, unless maybe you have an Indo wife. Vietnam was good. Very genuine people. Not necessarily as friendly on the surface as Thailand, but once you scratch the surface it gets deeper. Reckon if I hadn't settled in Asia, South America would have been calling. Cheers Fletch

You have to do what you think best, and in many ways I agree with you that Thailand is not the same as it once was. I guess nowhere is really. I will be sad to see you go as I always enjoy seeing your photographs and interesting posts. If you do go do not forget to put some of your new life where we can see it.

I avoid the negative crowd like the plague, I've found what works for me is having mates visit from abroad.
I try my best to clear my calendar and make as much time available when they visit, they are in holiday mode, great banter, good spirited, interested in seeing the sites and exploring the town, only problem is they ALL drink too much 5555555 and Johnny has no will power to say no.
It's been said a few hundred times they are probably miserable in their home country, the trick is spotting the negative ones quickly and finding people who make you happy.
