We recently had the internet connected to our new home in Saraphee, about 15km from CM city center. The ISP is 3BB and it was a typical connection via a phone line.
I was a bit worried about the speed we would have because of the distance from CM but I was surprised to find I was downloading movies at speeds up to 1.2 MB/s. Is this a good speed for my type of connection ? (Movies seemed to be downloading at a fast rate even compared to the Telstra WiFi set-up I use when in Australia.) I cannot compare it to what I had before when we lived in a condo in CM city because I was using a AIS dongle which was very slow and unreliable.
Would be interested to hear what speeds other people are getting around Thailand but especially the Saraphee area.

Not sure who to use in CM city, but best thing to do no matter where you are in Thailand is to ask around the local area about who the best provider is. Some areas are only serviced by one or two ISP's so sometimes the choices are limited, unless you want to use a wireless dongle. My wife asked around our neighborhood and 3BB seemed to be the best one, and we have unlimited data usage for 600 baht a month. I thought they would throttle it back when it reached a certain limit but it was still going flat out after I had used over 100 gig up. hippity made a good comment regarding contacting them when there is a problem, that is a good job for the wife, don't want to know about that one. My Thai is beer-bar level, 3rd dan.

When I have a problem I use the press 9 for English and get a message they will call back. in time which can be hrs they call backwith someonewho knows what they are doing and speaks perfectly useable English. Only got one moderate english speaker once.

Before we were using pre-paid and he was forever going off about the "stupid internet" because his videos were taking too long to load. I said to my wife he is only two, he should not even know what the bloody internet is.
