Ever noticed those notices on the London Underground warning not to use flash guns on approaching trains as it affects the drivers eyesight?
Bright sunlight if shining on a signal aspect can also distort or in fact obscure the signal. Spad. Signal passed at Danger, could result in a large number of fatalities.
Inane as it may seem the danger content is potentially lethal, safety comes first or in this case, safety came first.

My all time favorite site funnytweeter.com had this tweet on today's best -
Trains delayed due to: - Wrong kind of sun - Ominous cloud - Slightly damp leaf - Chilly track - Suspicious gravel - Sarcastic swan
I am tempted to laugh at the Poms about this but there have been cases in Australia where caterpillars crawled over the tracks en masse and brought trains to a halt. Apparently the little buggars are slippery when squished under train wheels and the loco loses traction. It has happened in China as well.
