This great piece of writing is a request from the admin of Geoexpat HK  Now if only TVF had such humour. I'm not involved although a member over there it's all good fun just like here. geoexpat.com/forum/39/thread334485.htmlA Request - Banning / Reporting / Growing Up Over the long weekend, I banned a number of users (those bans of have been lifted) and thought I'd share my opinions and frustrations and seek some help. I've run several communities over the last 2 decades on the internet. All of them have involved grown ups. All of them without exception have had problems with a few users. GeoExpat is no exception to this. We have had to ban people, repeatedly on all these forums. However, I think GeoExpat members represent a more grown up, mature and educated demographic and I (and I think the collective readership) expects more. So, my request - seriously. Can you (the handful of people who know who they are) take a look at some of your posts and try and tone things down a little bit? Do you really need to have the arguments that you have? Do you really need to get the last word in? Is your real life so bad that you get your highs by insulting someone on the interwebs? Is your intellect so diminished that your best response is a lowest common denominator attack? Do you really need to stalk people and go after all their posts and previous user names? Are you really this angry and disturbed in real life? When faced with a problem at work, do you go for your colleagues jugular all the time? Be a little bit more mature and do what you tell your kids, colleagues, spouses, friends - Back the f' away from "the other clown" because you're never going to win! There might be better ways to say this, but I have to resort to the lowest common denominator request here... Please? (I can almost predict the responses to this thread .. but hey .. surprise me!) |

That fellow definitely has his head screwed on the right way. I invited him over here and we had a natter about TVF, his response was TV what? He's never heard of it. |

Let's be honest. If all the collective brain cells of the other place admin and mod team were collected and packed together and then turned into dynamite, even then there wouldn't even then be enough power for any one person to blow its nose.. sheeeeeeeeeeeeet

A perfect example over at tvf is the poster of the year malarkey.
Look at how those bring out posters true colours!
Deplorable comes to mind.

A perfect example over at tvf is the poster of the year malarkey. Look at how those bring out posters true colours! Deplorable comes to mind. It had more rounds than Jing has handbags! |

Great post, IMO and I agree with it totally. Never been into TVF, but it seems like the mods all have small man syndrome with the duck being to most telling of all. My experience with Ajarn started of well and got worse after certain posters lost the plot when I started becoming friends with posters that they didn't like. All rather childish if you ask me. As for Teak Door, it's always been a forum that I go to to cause trouble. Trolling that place is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Many of their long term posters have left...or post far less. Som nom naa. It's an observation as I don't follow them any more closely but there seems to be some truth in what you guys write above. TVF has really turned into a Newstainment Forum which offers also some Visa advice. When I checked the other night, the total number of members/guests viewing the 'General Forum' were outnumbered by those viewing just 1 news item. To that end, I believe their moderation team has played a significant role to cause that effect. They seem to decapitate the posters who have a creative input (the Hens) and encourage the non-productive Roosters who can crow incessantly from sparrows fart (early in the morning), but produce no original content. Heaven help them if UrbanJo ever got sick of the place and retired, there would be little helpful visa advice. I hope, for his sake, he's on the Payroll ! |

While you guys, posting here, I feel like I'm sitting in a Pub with a number of good friends and some strangers, of whom I am yet to make their acquaintance, but hope to do so in the near future.
Plus, if the genders are creditable, nice to see some lassies here also, a nice balance to other Forums.
