Amusing to say the least....
Long story short... Met George a couple of years or so ago I'm HK at a conference. Nice guy. Did not find much common ground between GeoExpat and TV, and figured sometimes parallel roads are not meant to cross. Would not blame him for selling or going anonymous and hiding behind a proxy.
I did like the big Mango forum, found it as we get notified when someone clicks on a link pointing to Geo. Good group of people and less weird then TV.
'XXXXXX - I was not aware of the problems that George had. We were exchanging a lot of notes a couple of years ago, but the conversations started slowing down once we both figured that it would not be possible for us to do business together.
For us, we prefer to do business in clean jurisdictions - Thailand, China and many others have laws which change overnight and even the applicable laws are applied differently to different people.
I did read about his problems - jeez, I guessed I dodged a bullet on that one as the deal did not meet our standards for advertisers (we reject most people who want to advertise with us). He had approached me a year or 18 months ago to advertise some properties on GeoExpat. Another business scheme which in my view sounded dodgy. All interesting reading... anyways like you said, best to just leave that topic.
And I am well aware of what happens to people to move to Thailand - know several people who dropped out of HK, moved to Thailand and grew scarier every year I visited them or they visited HK. Not my cup of chai...
No problems taking topics / posts. We have a good variety to share.
