In German parts Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg asylum seekers have to handover cash above 750 EURO (250 in B-W). People are screened on reception with emphasise on documents, but also cash and jewelry. It seems Switserland was already doing such for some years. In 2015 the Swiss government 'earned' 200,000 EURO this way. Note that the German article talks about "asylum seekers" while referring to the recent influx of refugees.
