Finally we have something of a concrete reason for trimming things.
Well I don't know the digital ins and outs.
The emailing idea doesn't sound a bad idea....so long as its simply a how are you? etc.

Errm if that is the criteria I might have to vote yes. All these indivuduals chose to go elsewhere, and a couple did so with malice. They have left the forum, and at least two of those will never be welcomed back - delete them. Take pride in the forum having a core membership which is up to date. On this I agree. Those who shaped the forum are still here with the notable exception of MJP who is of course welcome here any time he chooses. |

However, we are not sociopaths. Sending someone a quick private email mentioning that they are missed and wondering if they are okay is just basic decency. Equally - there comes a point we have to move on. That's why I suggest pruning, and reviewing who will be "leaving us," once a month. It will take minutes to do - it's easy. |

Correct - and MJP can sign up using his original name again, I believe, which is a nice touch on proboards. That applies to anyone that we delete and wishes to rejoin later. |

Nothing is stopping a personal email to those we have not seen for a while....note I said personal not the automated spam that is is usually used for "digital marketing" which fills my email daily and is deleted fust as often. |

Recently one of my few facebook friends had a post on his page which I was to cut and paste to all my friends and if I did not I would be deleted as a friend. I did not do so and was deleted.
I sent him an email saying that where I came fronm friends were for life and I was very disapointed that he had shown he was not one. He reinsated me but next time he comes to Chiangrai he will not be welcomed as he was the last time. Treating us as a resource, or an asset (or liability) belonging to the board would be where I left..

Seems a bit of a waste of time for someone to have to activity delete people who are doing nothing  Bit like people who sit nursing the same pint for hours down the pub. As long as no-one needs the table and they're not doing any harm, leave them be... So I voted no in case you're wondering An OUTRAGE !!! Aye but, no but - well - I had a look and by removing the members that joined in April, for example, we would be reoving very few that have ever posted on the forum at all. A side benefit would be that we could fire off an invitation to come back to the few that did post and left for whatever reason. You are perfectly aware that this board does not email market, or encourage any form of commercial use on the forum. You are not being asked to do anything, and I doubt that you ever will be. And yet, you twist this round to an "asset," type issue. What's wrong with you? Did you choose to ignore the entire section about inquiring after people who had been active members in the past, then went quiet, through spite? Do you have some objection to a volunteer on the board sending off a private email to a past member to see if they are okay? This is the polar opposite of an "asset," issue. This is based upon community, and community spirit. And there's space for all personality types in our cracking wee community. And that includes cantankerous, twisted, old gets. |
