I know a few guys from up there.
Did smokie dig peat.
I've been up to Sullom Voe and flew from Sumburgh and Scatsa.

I went peat-digging once, when I was visiting relatives in Shetland, when I was but an infant.

What is peat used for? Isn't it just dirt?

It's like coal only much younger. And softer. And nearer the surface. And you have to dry it all summer before it will burn. To be honest, if there were any trees on Shetland, they wouldn't bother. But there aren't.

I was up there growing umm herbs for general consumption.
I always preferred the folk festival, Shetland has a thriving folk scene with even small kids composing and performing their own music. A wonderful thing.

Something wrong with the herbs up there. They stunt the horse's growth.

What is peat used for? Isn't it just dirt? Coal that needs a few million more years.... organic matter from marshes........... when dry can be burnt can add to soil to change acidity too for gardening.
