Comfortable resort, nice island and protected marine park
We were there for a little over a week. Nice enough resort (with a secluded/semi private beach) for this island. The mixed Thai/European staff were helpful and well-mannered. Our rooms were up-to-date (internet/television with an assortment of channels) and well-kept. Food/drinks were wonderful and safe to eat (unlike one place I ate at while on the island).

One meal at the resort:
I’ve spent some time on a handful of islands around Thailand and I would say Koh Lipe has a lot to offer with two main streets that are bustling during the evenings and more than enough hotels/resort to choose from. It’s a bit overbuilt but would still be a nice vacation spot for a family holiday.
While visiting different parts of the island we ran across the K – 9th grade school and their playing field/view,……
A Chao Lae (people of the sea) village. Most; who can speak Thai (they have their own language) are working for the tourist industry on the island now.
Some are still fishing. In the picture below, a villager is building a bamboo/net fish trap (lorb). They range in price from 7,000 (small) to 10,000 (large) baht when finished. They’ll place the traps in the water for about 2 weeks and check on them from time to time, waiting for them to fill with about 100 kilos of fish before removing them from the water. Some divers (visiting the island) will cut the nets to release their catch.
One very small section of walking street and one (good one) of two restaurants we visited (outside of the resort) while on the island.
Some beaches,……….
From sunset beach
We spent a large portion of our time in the water. We also spent some time with a local and he did tell us some of the dive shops don’t control their divers enough and have spoiled a lot of the reefs in the area. There are some wonderful lonely beaches that you can visit and pretty much own to yourself for the day besides maybe a visit from a fisherman’s family.
