From the only in Australia file ...Now, we can get a lot of interesting images from the Net, and feel free to post them, along with YouTubes etc but I reckon it's the stories behind the images which have the most appeal. .

Australia Day roadside drinking game stopped by ‘fun police’A GROUP of larrikins claim their Australia Day was ruined by “un-Australian” fun police who forced them to can a roadside drinking game. Four mates have begged police to go easy on them after the group was spotted drinking near Portarlington Highway, near Geelong, next to a painted sign that read “You honk! We drink!”. Herald Sun.

Australia 20/20 team need to learn how to bat.
I was shocked and almost disappointed yesterday.
Well I would have been if I could have stopped giggling.

I don't think the Australian cricket team will lose too much sleep over being beaten in a three match 20/20 series. They are more than capable of regaining their number one spot again in all forms of the game. They would happily compare their country's past record in the game with any other country, including England.

I agree, they are a bit like that, but they play the game hard and they like to win just as much as the other guys. (Can you imagine the flak the Indians copped for losing the previous matches/series on this current tour ?)
I think the English supporters get more pleasure out of an Australian loss as they do out of an English win, and there is good reason for that. The English think because the game originated in their country they are expected to be the best and when a country like Australia, with about a third of the population of England beats them, well then you have that knife to the heart. (a bit like a Jamaican bob-sled team)
Australian cricket fans treat every game our team plays as a lead up to the next Ashes series. To us that is the pinnacle of the game, and it's what keeps me interested in the sport.

It's such a pleasure watching the faces of disbelief of the convicts when it all goes wrong.

I can understand the pleasure you must feel, it must be grand. But cricket is a sport based on averages, so on average, since this great game has been played between our countries the convicts have been the ones smiling 40% of the time compared with England being the ones smiling 32.6% of the time (27.4% of all matches were drawn) My real interest in the game begun in the mid eighties, although I had followed it since the sixties when we played cricket at school, on the street, and anywhere else we could get a game going. In 1986 England won the series in Australia and their captain Mike Gatting said that Australia did not deserve a five test Ashes series and future tours by England should only be a three match series. Recently appointed and reluctant Australian captain Alan Border was badly stung by Gatting's remark and was set on revenge. Border took his young team to England for the 1989 Ashes tour and flogged England 4-0 and went on to win the next seven series straight, a thirteen year reign until 2002. I often wondered over the years if Gatting ever regretted that arrogant remark he made.

We (well, most of us) love our sport, and we love to win. That T20 side is the second string side though. and the T20 game is not our focus ATM. We have an upcoming ODI series against NZ in NZ. We have a woefull 'away' record and trying to correct that. NZ pitches 'swing' a lot more then the typical Aussie ones do. Even more now that most of the Aussie pitches are 'drop-ins' so that the winter sports can compete on them. eg, the Gabba, the WACA, the 'G' (MCG) T20 is still fun to watch, hit and giggle and the kids love it, nice way to introduce them to the sport. .

Not just in Australia as these contests are worldwide, but this is the Australian version and features a Thai contestant who is residing in Australia. Backstage at Miss Gay and Miss Transsexual Australia, contestants share their thoughts on gender equality, acceptance and what it would mean to win the truly life-changing top prize. Infographic: "I am from Bangkok. People in Thailand are looking up to me and support me. My mum is here, supporting me. I am very lucky," Melbourne contestant Nadia Chin says. (ABC News: Margaret Burin ) Source.
