WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has said he will turn himself over to UK police on Friday if a UN panel rules he has not been unlawfully detained. In a statement on Twitter, Mr Assange said he would accept there was "no meaningful prospect of further appeal". He has not left the Ecuadorian Embassy in Knightsbridge, west London, since June 2012 after being granted asylum. Mr Assange has been fighting extradition to Sweden over a claim of sexual assault, which he denies. www.bbc.com/news/uk-35489859

The WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will agree to be arrested by British police on Friday if a UN investigation into his three-and-a-half years holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in central London does not rule that he is being illegally detained. Assange has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy since June 2012, after Swedish authorities sought his extradition. He has not been charged with any offence, but has been sought for questioning in Sweden in relation to sexual assault allegations made against by two women against him. The United Nations working group on arbitrary detention is set to hand down a determination on Assange’s case on Friday morning. The decision is a last-ditch legal attempt by Assange for a ruling that his detention is arbitrary and unlawful. It rests on a challenge to the European extradition system, his inability to access the benefit of the grant of asylum by Ecuador, and what he argues is his long-term detention. He's always been a trouble maker for himself his whole life. What a loss of face for him if the UN say he has not been unlawfully detained. However, I wouldn't put it past the UN to create mischief.

Sadly without squeeky wheels nothing ever gets fixed. We may or may not agree with his methods or even why he did them but I am sure most of the detractors of him would find it very reasonable for someone to do the same thing in regard to other flaws in the system.

Would you still be glad though if he released your personal mail? You mean all the spam that I receive I think that the mail he released was mail which was not personal but affected the lives of many. Would you have the same objection to those who have published Hitler's letters?

Would you have the same objection to those who have published Hitler's letters? You receive spam because you signed up for it. All mails personal unless the owner chooses otherwise. And as for Hitler's letters you've answered my question with a question. Would you care if someone published your emails? That's the question.

ANd you have answered my question with a question What was the question again? What is missing from this important debate is contextual relevance. If Joe Blogs next door said, in an email, screw them Japs, look what they did to us during the War. I think, that's nice Joe, you are welcome to your opinion. However, if the Minister for Trade in my Government, was overheard saying something similar, say, while a microphone was left accidentally on and the press recorded that and leaked it, I reckon that would be the Press doing it's job and immensely disappointed with my Trade Minister for showing ill discipline by not being able to differentiate what is acceptable comments, in public or private while holding Public Office.

All mails personal unless the owner chooses otherwise. umm ... err ... no I surmise that a lot of the Spam I receive is because the party whose website I signed up for has then, despite their assurances has then gone and resold that address list. Or that website was hacked. Or, as a participant in a group email (I was organising a social function) I received spam to a unique email I had set up for the sole purpose or organsing a function, someone in that group had had their email account hacked and thus the hacker had access to all the participants emails from that group. Shite happens, despite our best efforts.
