Why you should read your travel insurance fine print ...Someone may not be throwing you the life buoy when you really need it !Jordan Darney, 21, fell out of a third storey window in Prague and woke up in a hospital bed minus a spleen and with shattered elbows and pelvis. A medical flight home would cost tens of thousands of dollars. He was shocked to learn he was not covered by his travel insurance policy.
His coverage was void because he had registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.144 per cent.He had been drunk when he fell. "I had insurance so I thought I would be ok," he told Hack last year, speaking from the Prague hospital bed. "That hasn't been the case." When he made it home one month later Jordan had clocked a $100,000 medical bill. Travel insurance is a good idea to avoid massive hospital bills overseas, but there are a few common pitfalls and exclusions to be aware of before picking your policy. The short advice is: hereJust a heads up, or a timely reminder. .

Go with a proper insurance company, not some pikey fly by night digital option.

I actually don't believe the story.
At what stage did they get his blood alcohol level? And who took the reading and as if it was passed over to the insurance company. Then why would they even need an alcohol reading?
Sounds like scare tactics to me.

They would want to see what he had taken before administering an drugs/pain relief? The hospital report would/should have included all relevant data.
