Long a poster child for the global fight against HIV/Aids, Thailand has since the early ’90s championed successful condom-promoting campaigns that slashed transmission rates of HIV. The Universal Coverage Health Scheme now provides all Thais who test HIV-positive with free anti-retroviral drugs irrespective of their immunity levels. Thailand will be one of the first developing countries to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission, and is now aiming to "end Aids" by 2030. But the good news and ambitious goals paint only half the picture. The rate of new HIV infections is not falling fast enough. Currently about 8,000 people get infected every year. Almost a quarter of those already infected are not aware of their status, and, for years now, the number of annual Aids-related deaths has hovered around 20,000. Last year, a report from by UNAIDS and the Lancet Commission warned governments of the risk of a dramatic rebound of the disease unless they accelerated prevention efforts over the next five years. Focus should be on prevention rather than treatment, same with anything or any issue worldwide.
They should pay late stage AIDS sufferers decent money to go to schools and tell their stories.

Not really. The reality is that people are going to have sex without condoms, and condoms sometimes break, so simply focussing on prevention isn't going to work. However, by treating HIV+ people with drugs to reduce their viral load to "undetectable" means that even if they have unprotected sex their partner will not acquire the virus. The priority therefore should be to identify everyone who is HIV+ and provide them with antiretrovirals.

Reminds me of a story - Pattaya 2008.
Sixty-five year old Yorkshireman.
"That girl has only been doing this for three weeks. I talked her into let me doing her without a condom, but told her not to let anyone else do that."
Effin muppet.
Three weeks? oh aye, indeed.
And did it never occur to him that the condom was for his protection?????
MUPPET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder how much of Thailands problem is being exported by farang back to farangsville.
Guy I used to know died of Aids two weks ago.
Went wild In Thailand, ignored the warnings, these are young sweet girls, if they had Aids they wouldnt be allowed to work etc etc.
Lost his job in 2004, and went back to America, still I suppose he had 12 years.
Thats one of the things these middle aged recently divorced guys cant handle, the availability. The guy was no idiot work wise, uni degree, Microsoft qualified up the ying yang etc etc.
What a waste.

Yup - I know an HIV positive farang in Chiang Mai. I read a report that said that as many as 30% of customers request sex without a condom - staggering.

After having unprotected sex you should vigorously scrub your member with a scrubbing brush soaked in kerosene and baking soda. It will do nothing for transmissible diseases but will make you think twice next time.

I couldn't think of a more socially acceptable word.

That will sterilise your genitals - possibly in more ways than one.

Focus should be on prevention rather than treatment, same with anything or any issue worldwide. They should pay late stage AIDS sufferers decent money to go to schools and tell their stories. About 13 or 14 years ago, my SIL's ex husband was the local Kamnam Used to take me around to meetings etc... We were at one where a school aged girl was talking to the district old folk. She was HIV positive. There was 3 young Americans there, American peace corp or something. They came over and we got talking. They asked why I was there, which I explained. They told me what they were doing, which I' be forgotten. Were watching the girl and I said, "She's talking to the wrong people". " What do you mean?" One asked. "These people are in their 70s or 80s, they'd rather be at friends playing cards. Highly unlikely the get AIDS. She should be talking to her pier group". That seemed to disturb the,and they moved away. I've seen an AIDS victim down the road. Her husband went to work in Patong. He came home once a month, but he wasn't only having sex at home. He got infected, passed it on. He died, and she already HIV positive went to work in Patong. So one day and wife takes me to see her.( I didn't know why we were going, it was just come with me.) There was a crowd, and I'm dragged inside. There is a body on a bed, more fat on a chip. Wife says" She'll be dead next month" I said more like next week. It was a couple of days. So I'm looking, and my wife asks what I'm thinking. "I am thinking how many people have her and her husband killed?"
