All joking to one side.it actually could be a natural gas source that ignited as it doesn't move around or spread, Such combustion events are in fact far from rare around the world.
Mind you the initial flame burst when he put his hand into the water certainly must have cured the young fellows constipation he didn't know he had at that moment in time.

Most likely methane released by decaying vegetation at the bottom of the lake. Nothing to do with pollution. In fact, it's a nasty, racist slur to suggest that any body of water in Thailand is polluted. TAT should sue the reporter.
