Is Check-in 99 (or Check-in Gardens) still going, just off Soi7 Suk, best steak I've had since I left the UK. Still there....not cheap for drinks though. Yes still there, one of the best venues in that sleaze bag of an area, thankfully the prices are priced to keep the ballon chasers out, excellent little venue, if only they could do something about the bloody band.

Anyone heard of or been to Eight Plus bar in Suk Soi 8? Have been reading some good things about it. Sports bar/restaurant and hotel from what I can gather.

Soi 8. Couple of good places for breakfast - Stable Lodge has a good one, basket of different breads to the table, big full plates. Kiwi Pub for a drink or a reasonable pub dinner, all manner of sports on lots of screens, good selection of beers. are you talking about the Thai restaurant a bit further along, smokie? Haven't been to that one. Do I remember a swanky French restaurant further down as well?

No....opposite side to the Kiwi and closer to Sukhumvit Rd....it has a small bar outside and crappy looking seating but the food is excellent inside and reasonably priced.

Aww, that's not fair, I like the band, speaking as a musician who was viewed by the general public just as an interruption to the bingo, I would love that gig.

Could one, recommend a suitable watering hole for The good doctor? I'm sure the bars in Silom Soi 4 would be of interest to you, many fascinating characters, especially the Telephone Bar. Thermae.

The annual Bangkok trip went well, stuck to a well worn path of familiar places with a mixture of farang and Thai meals. Restaurant called Bus Stop in Soi 4 served some good Thai stuff. Tried Chequers once again for breakfast with a half monty English breakfast, good. Bullys Pub with a decent pint of Kilkenny and a Guinness in Flann O'Briens in Silom. A q for you chaps who frequent or live in BKK, whats with the VAT and service charge in some places and others not?.

Best to stick to the "others don't" spots!
Just a ripoff mooping.
One of those which doesn't is No Idea on Soi 22.....their lamb shank is just sublime....not cheap at 600 Baht but worth every penny.

I find it a strange place. Always reminds me of wedding receptions with lots of dad-dancing going on.

If they put chilli on my meal, they would be told to change it. I have noticed this happens regularly in Thailand, they put something on the menu, you fancy it, so you order, the meal comes with added things you may not like. This has happened to me a few times, I take it back with a smile on my face, tell them I don't want this or that and to change it. They always do.
