The Dutch Society for preservation of nature monuments in the Netherlands had called for a temporary stop on the hunt of wild ducks in the Netherlands. For yet unknown reasons the population has been decreasing rapidly over the last years. In 2000 there were 200,000 'broedparen' (breeding pairs?) but now its 20% lower. Also less spent wintertime in the Netherlands. Investigations are under way to understand the reduction and as these wild ducks don't cause harm, the society wants a temporary stop on duck hunts. media.nu.nl/m/j9gxtcfaudw3_wd640.jpg/natuurmonumenten-wil-tijdelijk-jachtverbod-wilde-eend.jpg

Dont know why the population is decreasing but lets just ban the hunt anyway...very nanny state/jobsworthy to me....what happens if the root cause for the decreasing population is because they are choking on used condoms...going request an immediate ban on the sale and use of the above mentioned latex device ?

Maybe crowdsource the development of biodegradable condoms? Just strong enough for one-time use? Mind you, drug smuggling would become a bit of gamble, or to paraphrase some prince from Denmark 'to swallow or not to swallow, that is the question.'

Every year in Australia there is a duck hunting season in Victoria. I think it is from March to June. And every year these liquored up, gun-toting rednecks manage to shoot and kill fellow hunters, as well as ducks, friendly fire so to speak. (Darwin comes to mind) Every year the people who rescue the wounded ducks that are left behind to die a slow and painful death are having to put down ducks that can't be saved. It is estimated that more ducks are put out of their misery than the number of ducks that are allowed to be shot by the irresponsible hunters. I have no problem with the lame-brained hunters culling themselves, but I cannot understand why they are encouraged to cull vermin instead of our native animals. Feral pigs, cats, foxes etc. are a menace to the environment and native animals and should have a bounty on their heads.
