I agree Soi Khao Noi is full of the crowd wearing Chang wife beaters and so is Nern Plub Wan. You have to go up Soi Siam Country Club to the lake lots of bars and restaurants and resorts there but the "entertainment" is not in your face like downtown Pattaya and you don't get hassled for lady drinks and no one calls you handsome man. There's a very large expat community there. Mostly quality expats and it's only around 20 mins from downtown Pattaya. If you're staying downtown take a drive or rent a scooter and have a look around. No blue Baht buses either. Any condo development in that area? None around Mabprachan Lake, buildings are limited to two stories high. Can't think of any condos on the Darkside except opposite the Thai market on Soi Siam Country Club.

I moved here last October from Phuket having been made redundant and getting a new job which is based here. Initially I thought I would dislike it as I had had a decent time in Patong. I now find myself felling happy that I moved. Pattaya is considerably cheaper than Phuket, has far more varied restaurants and bars and my accommodation is nearly 1/3 of what I was paying before. Getting around it cheap if you use the Baht Bus. I don't have too much time off but am now starting to explore more. Getting over to the dark side is more complicated if you don't have a car but I'll find a way.

How could anyone possibly dislike Pattaya where you can rent rooms and other acoutrements for only 100 baht a night with free outdoor entertainment?
