Thai business celebrities defend their names in Panama Papers scandalAttachment DeletedThai business celebrities embroiled in the Panama Papers came out to defend their names and questioned the accountability of the Panama documents. Posted on his Facebook page, Banyong Pongpanich, chief executive officer of Kiatnakin bank, said he never knew of the law firm, Mossack Fonseca, and used its services. He also said he never had any lawyer in Panama. At the same time, Boonkiat Chokwatana, president and chief executive of ICC International, an affiliate of Sahapat Group, admitted that Sahapat has registered an overseas investment to accommodate its expansion and distribution, but everything was conducted through legal channel and abided by the laws. He insisted that the group never invested via either Cayman Islands or the British Virgin Islands. Charn Issara Development chief executive Songkran Issara also defended his reputation saying leak in the controversial documents was 100% baseless and untrue. He urged the Thai media to help giving facts and presenting truth to the public for clarification. Admiral Bannawit Kengrien, former advisor to the Ministry of Defence, said he did not understand why his name was listed in the blacklist. All names in the blacklist are the billionaires, he said and added he never had any business overseas because he could not afford to invest overseas.
