"Airbus boarded by 12 nation-state, crimeware 'breaches' every year State-sponsored hackers will do 'everything' to get in, says CISO ACSC 2016 Airbus chief security officer Stephane Lenco says the company is hit by successful state-sponsored and ransomware attacks a dozen times each year. The attacks aren't full breaches, instead representing penetration beyond simple scanning trigger a response from the aviation giant's security and computer emergency response team. Speaking at the Australian Cyber Security Centre Conference (ACSC 2016) in Canberra today, Lenco said state-sponsored hackers and terrorists as the company's chief threat actors." www.theregister.co.uk/2016/04/13/airbus_has_12_nationstate_crimeware_breaches_a_year/

The data that is sent from the control tower to the plane is unencrypted. No one seems to see that as a risk though for some reason.
It's possible to intercept a live transmitted flight plan and alter it with one of your own.

No not saying that.
Heres a quick one on hacking into the entertainment system and increasing thrust on 1 engine, but not the same thing I was talking about.
Heres what I was talking about, Warning! its uber geek material.

THe Control tower does not send any iplight plans to the plane If the pilots of the plane want to change a flight plan they do include that change in voice message to the "tower" but the flight plan is entered by hand or from the company servers and then checked by both the ppilot flying and by te pilot monitoring.

please excuse my terminology, you will have to watch that hour long youtube clip to see what I meant.
The plane send beacons to the tower so the tower can sort out whats in the airspace and arrange all the landings.
That can be intercepted, plus mid flight TCAS (traffic collision avoidance system)
Stop being a lazy ass and just watch the video.

It does send information about its current position to anyone recieving. This data can be read freely on sites such as flightaware.com/ THe information transmitted by planes consist of its position and altitude. The information of planes within a close radius of the plane is read by onboard equipment which calculates the track of the surrounding planes, compares them with the location and track of the aircraft and calculates if a collission possible,. If there is a warning is shown on the flight display. More advanced units also compute the best way to avoid the collission and give it in verbal announcement form. Such as TCAS pull up pull up turn right. or TCAS descend descend turn left. TCAS has nothing to do with flight plans. Security workers ina ll countries have decided that there is little risk to the tracking information being desplayed because someone only has to look out the window of their house to find if a plane is around. The TCAS does not fly the plane but gives avoidance warnings...just like a passenger shouting out when they see a car approaching on the wrong side of the road.
