After the 2nd one in Japan, I read something about scientists were worried these are a sign a really big one is coming. I think they mean on the ring of fire. California is over due I saw just this week on Discovery, and it was from a couple of years ago.

The last one was in 1944. The Americans were there and filmed it. I remember having seen shorts with soldiers cleaning ash from aeroplanes.
