I was in Bangkok Patana once...the school cafeteria menu should be included in Bangkok restaurant guides! I walked by the NIST school on soi 15 at lunch time yesterday. Sitting under an umbrella at a roadside noodle stall eating kao man gai in that heat certainly wont be on my bucket list. As an aside a casual observation, noticed a couple of teachers smoking right outside the school, I think its the first time I have seen this. Thoughts please, acceptable or not from a professional point of view.

However, as an ex-smoker I do believe that everyone has the right to a ciggie, I get very p**sed with the PC lot ranting on about second hand smoke. The no fun brigade have ruined the pub scene in the UK and attempted the same here (thankfully they have failed in the main in Thailand). So while I believe that it is wrong for teachers to smoke so near to the school, the school should provide an out of sight area or a room for their staff that do smoke.

Ah yes....I remember being called into the assistant head's office once...thinking I was in for a rollicking for some unremembered violation (he had a Bronson like reputation)....invited to take a seat he then offered me a Regal king size before sparking up himself then enquiring as to the health of my grandfather. Turns out they were old pals.....changed days indeed!

Smokie is correct about the lunch menu, sad to say I did put on a bit of weight.I can resist food mostly, not a priority, tend to eat one main meal a day and do not snack. That choice was irresistible.
NIST I have never visited, I do know it is a favourite with the Thai/Indian billionaires. Pattana does not have teachers running school buses; that is administration, no teachers, and the transport department suffers no fools. Dare they risk it with the kids being transported. The rules are clear and the monetary rewards for the van drivers/owners is considerable. I will not comment on this again, as I feel it is not for me to do so about one particular school. I did chip in as Fletch might be concerned, and wished to reassure him. Patana prefers the pupils to travel by school bus as it prevents traffic chaos. The other large school on Soi Lasalle is Lasalle College, where most parents drive their children to school, me included. It is chaos there in the mornings and afternoons.

Just one further point, agreed profit in Private Schools is a factor, but some private schools are registered charities and as such all profit must be reinvested into the school or foundation. It is quite an important difference. Enough said.

My old place work could have done with that, it often seemed like a whose got the biggest and most expensive car competition. Then I ruin the parade by rocking up on my Big C bicycle
