Hello Crazy Mangoers, I am hoping to take a tour through certain parts of Europe next summer. As some of you may know, I am a very well travelled lady, who has been many places. The one place I haven't been to is Europe (except the UK). So, I hope to go to Spain (Barcelone), Italy and France at least. Any recommendations on places to see, things to do, hotels to stay at. I am not too sure how much it'll cost as I'm used to travelling in Asia which is somewhat cheaper. I hope to travel for about a month. Any advice will help. I usually plan my whole trips by myself and love to somewhat plan in advance. Thanks

Can help a bit with France, I tend to stay at little B&Bs and family run places. Paris is a must- then take the train south stopping off in Dordogne and Lot a Garron regions; the latter is pretty underdeveloped so enjoy soaking up the calm and lack of tourists. Dinner and good wine in St. Emillion. Can't help with Spain but in Italy I always head to the Cinq Terre Coast-below

Awesome, thanks Seb. I'd like to hear even more about these places and details. I do plan on spending some time in Paris that's for sure. Oui, Oui! Je parle un peu francais. I was thinking of Barcelona, and Rome, plus I love that pic of the south of Italy. Wow!

What about Amsterdam? Museums galore and a cracking nightlife. I'm bias, but Budapest should not be missed IMO. It's cheap, beautiful, packed with culture, great food (dinner at Parisi 6 off Vaci Utca for an intro to local food) and of course the thermal baths. Stay at the Gellert- about 60 euro a night- well worth it; it's the grand old dame of the city. Enjoy some Hungarian Sparkling wine on the terrace.

^You make some excellent points to go to Amsterdam and Budapest. I don't think I'll be able to do them all. I don't like spending like two or three days in a place and moving on. I like to spend at least a week or more in a place to get a feel for them. I spent a month each in three SEAsian countries in 2008, but I took a year off to travel.. . Both of those places you mention are on my list at some point. Even Greece would be awesome.

Both of those places you mention are on my list at some point. Even Greece would be awesome. Milan, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Munich, Budapest, Vienna, Prague. All easy to do on a 30 day trip - Fly Emirates into Milan and out of Prague. Milan - stunning, worth minimum five days - I stayed in a cracking traditional apartment next to the subway. Milan to Innsbruck - by train about four hours I think, comfortable, easy and quite cheap. Innsbruck - minimum five days again, stunning little city, surrounded by mountains and gorgeous scenery. I stayed in a guesthouse which was at the lower end of acceptable, but in a cracking location - I'll upgrade next time. Innsbruck to Salzburg - direct train to the Sound of Music city - worth three days easy, Salzburg to Munich - direct train again - easy as pie, just across the border Back to Salzburg then over to Vienna - gorgeous city, minimum five days Vienna to Budapest - direct train - a couple of hours - cheap and easy. I'll leave others to describe Budapest, I haven't been Budapest to Prague - six hours, easy journey, comfortable trains as all the trains are. Prague - minimum five days. Stunning historical city. ............................................... Possible adjustment - do Rome, Milan, Venice then up to Innsbruck - drop Munich and Budapest, Estimated cost, taking into account a couple of cities are pricey accom wise, I'd budget £4000 for the month. That would likely include spending too. * not including the price of the Emirates flight Save

If you insist on Rome and Paris -
Into Paris, Brussels, Bruge, Amsterdam, Koblenz, down the Rhine, Frankfurt/Nuremberg/Munich - I used to live in Germany - stunning.
You could drop Amsterdam and go direct to Luxembourg city from Bruges/Brussels then along the Mosel to Koblenz.
Munich - Salzburg/ Innsbruck/Milan/Rome fly home Luxembourg, an excellent little city.
TBH, I can't stand Paris - just a personal opinion.

Loire Valley in France, stunning.
Chateau De Chambord, Chateau de Chenonceau.
If you are a hippy chick you can even visit Jim Morrisons grave in Paris.
If you want something off the beaten track, head to Belle Isle get the boat from Quiberon. Dont forget Mont Saint Michel, stunning.

Thanks very much for all the advice and ideas. I will look more into these places and I may have more questions as I go along. I say next summer, but I'm not 100% sure if it will be then or later, but never too early to research. Next summer may be the British Columbia/Alberta trip that I missed out on this summer.

One month? Spain, Italy and France? Isn't that a tad ambitious?
And what about Greece, cradle of European civilisation (despite Gandhi's apocryphal comment, when asked by a reporter what he thought about European civilisation, and replied "It would be a good idea").
Personally, I might be tempted to follow the route of the mediæval pilgrims from Paris to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. Timing about right if you do some sections by horse or bicycle.

Barcelona and Venice would be on my list. I don't think I'll have time to see Switzerland, but I'll keep it in mind.

I must agree, the atlantic coast of spain is wild and Santiago has the best chorizo al cidre , oh and pimento de padron served up in medieval subteranean cavs.

My head is spinning now with confusion. Maybe I'll just pick one or two and then do another trip. I do want to see Greece as well as I mentioned. I like art, nature and history, so it makes it tough to decide where to go. Italy, France and Spain for sure, but maybe two different trips.
