Big debate this morning about business class travel. I'm flying to Glasgow from Bangkok next week in business class, same same. The debate was what length of flight renders business class useless? I reckon anything under two hours is a waste of money. I used to wonder why people paid extra for business class on Thai Airways from BKK to CM - for an hours flight?
Ting tong.

I would place it at four hours....any more than that and I need proper space.

I booked premium economy on the way back and had three seats to myself at the bulkhead. To me a great benefit was skipping the massive check-in queue. As soon as the seat belt signs went off, people skipped straight into the vacant seats from economy. The hostess instructed them to return to their seats, the usual passive aggressive arguments were put up by my fellow Glasgwegians, ending with the hostess instructing them to return to their seats of be arrested for refusing to comply with an order issued by an aviation officer. They moved. Save

Until recently it was a bargain but went up. For business class I used to pay about 600 baht more. For that I got flying to CNX an easier check in, no excess luggage problem, entry to the lounge to wait and have a nice meal before the flight free and then the extra room and service in the plane. True the plane is ok for one hour without but the extras were worth it. Now it is a bigger gap so has to be balanced between cost and the extra luggage and easy carry on that you get.

Well it's fine for those flying alone but it makes zero sense to fly business class from Australia to Thailand for 15thousand when we can fly economy for 3 thousand. Get a bulkhead seat and there's probably as much leg room as business anyway.
So I'd say it's not the length of the flight, it's the price.

Bit of both...most of my biz class flights are twice the price of economy...I wouldn't pay five times more.

When I was married with three kids I wouldn't blink about paying £3000 for flights for the family holiday. Now I'm single I may as ell spend the same money on myself. Legroom, yes - ability to lie on a full recline bed with mattress, no. Save

I think anything over 6 hours and biz class is worth it.
6 hours i find is a fairly short flight these days, but of course if i can get a good deal or an upgrade then biz please. Anything regional econ is fine

Flown business a few times- should have saved as I can't sleep on planes regardless of how nice the seat is. I couple of nights in The Landmark and more spending money is better IMO.

Company policy we have any flight 6 hours or over is business,
for personal long haul trips, i have no problem paying for business myself within reason, for example a flight to SA on Singapore air i wouldnt pay for business, but Qatar, Emirates etc i would...as the price of 2 business class tickets on those airlines is less than a single seat on Singapore

SaveI see the point for the long flights you guys take and if I had the money I'd pay it, but for us it's 8 hours to Thailand broken over 2 flights so I'll put up with it. I've never been past SE Asia so not sure how I'd go flying to the UK.

I totally agree, but after some crazy long flights like from Beijing to Toronto with crazy Chinese neighbors, I may look into business class next time just for the peace and quiet and space.

There lies it - I've had a few nightmare journeys alongside genuinely anti-social clowns in economy. Including guys fighting while drunk. Save
