One for our TEFLr types.
Was on the p**s in Bkk a while back, bumped into a TEFLr type who told me he had just got back from a gig in Nth Korea, he told me it is The Holy Grail of all TEFLrs, great salary, treated like royalty, everything available.
Putting politics aside and the baggage we bring from elsewhere, would you consider taking a job there?
I will hold my hands up and say, HECK YES, at the end of the day, I am nothing more than a prostitue, a gun for hire, another number.
A few years ago I was offered a job in a country in the ME that cant be named for fear of causing offence, the money was actually very bloody good, but I turned it down.
Nth Korea anyone and if not, why not.

I think there is some fiction being told, if the money was right would i go to NK ? Yes...why not it would be fun..
Cant be much different to the PRC in the early 90's and lasted 18 months there at the time...it was all rather James Bondish, we had communist party spys on the site watching us...once you got to know them...they werent bad people at all

Besides, it would be great to wake up on a bad hair day knowing that you were still way cooler than everyone else around you.

Perhaps, but I think someone may be telling porkies. The British Council used to have a post there but no more. I think you can volunteer though at some collage or another. It would be very isolating I would imagine- that would probably dissuade me. If I don't stay in Myanmar next year I am debating China, S.Korea, Hong Kong or Japan. Will end up coming back to Thailand after an event has happened. At the moment, I'm leaning towards either Japan or China.

Well whether it was fiction or not, the lad told a good story and kept me entertained. Made a pleasant change from the usual Walter Mitty invest in a duck farm/slurry pit upcountry types.

Well going by the link below which to be fair is a year old when the professed TEFL type was earning big money in North Korea I am inclined to think he was an accomplished raconteur. or possibly he perhaps was or had recently been indulging in substances that tend to change ones views and experiences due to said presumed substance being encased in those lovely Rizla skins resulting in spliffs of the ''waccy baccy type.

Too be honest SP the guy actually sounded educated and had a posh accent.
But herein lies the rub, I know nothing of teachers salaries, and he never mentioned what he earned. So what was good money for him may well be the case, sure beats the heck out of 25k upcountry in Nakon Nowhere.
