I'm flying to Mexico on July 20th - returning December 1.
First pain in the ass was trying to get a flight from London that didn't connect through the USA - I can't be bothered getting a visa just to transit through the USA. I've managed to get a flight going via Spain so that problem is solved.
My first stop in Mexico is Puerto Vallarta, on the Pacific coast - and I expect to spend some time in Mexico city at some point. Where else would you recommend?
My initial plan was to then travel down to Buenos Aries and Uruguay, but I'm now swaying towards Central America, and possibly ( only possibly ) Colombia. Where to see in Central America? I think I'll stay in Mexico till start September then start moving, and will return to Mexico mid-November. The beauty is, I have no firm plans in place so if I don't like a place, I can move on.

Peru? You’re in the area and it’ll be educational and fun later today I’ll post more pictures (with information) that might help with your decision. Until then google,..... Amazon River and Machu Picchu, Peru with the Thai girlfriend

Angela Falls - Venezuela. Went there many moons ago. Make sure there's a decent amount of water/rain around though otherwise the waterfall isn't that spectacular. Cuba - again many years since I went, but interesting place. Havana, Che Guevarra (dead now though), Castro, beaches and generally just another look at life experience Would love to do more of S.America but since settling in Asia it's not that convenient. Need to wait until the little wizards are a bit older. Cheers Fletch

I was thinking of doing Cuba as part of a future Caribbean trip.
Peru, I think I'd do on a future trip too, it seems to be a location that deserves a lot of time. Venezuela is a possibility but I hear it's lawless, out of control - hmmm.

Peru, I think I'd do on a future trip too, it seems to be a location that deserves a lot of time. OK for the future trip,... Two places in Peru a must see First the Amazon River. There are many cruise tour operators to choose from and you can pick a 3 - 4 night cruise to a 7 night cruise. Prices/boats vary considerably. We went with Aqua Expeditions Our Peruvian guides were knowable and would go out of their way (in depth) to answer questions for you. Each day they would take us out on two different expeditions (morning and afternoon) and teach us/show us something different everyday about the Amazon. It was a great experience and everyone (especially kids) should see it and learn about one of (if not the) largest rivers in the world. Swimming in the Amazon,……. Our ride,.... Then Machu Picchu. It was amazing to see what the Incas were able to build and worth a visit. If you’re physically fit visit Huayna Picchu to see Machu Picchu from a different view. You’ll also be able to tell everyone you survived the second most dangerous hike in the world. From the highest viewpoint (the blacked out area is me sitting and the girlfriend clutching on behind me),.... If you would like to take the hike, plan accordingly. There are a limited amount of tickets given out each day (400). You might want to get with a tour operator to purchase the ticket/s for you before you arrive. Don’t expect to purchase a ticket the day of. Just a note,…….you sign in before you start the hike and they make you sign out when you leave. The reason,……they’ll know who made it back alive and know the body/ies they are picking up/looking for at the bottom of the mountain. Huayna Picchu: www.outsideonline.com/1856636/20-most-dangerous-hikes#slide-2One more thing, there has been talk about closing Machu Picchu/Huayna Picchu down. The tourists have been damaging the site. Way too much foot traffic. When you do plan to visit, base yourself in Cusco. The center of the world. We stayed at the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, but there are many wonderful resorts to choose from. Belmond Palacio Nazarenas: www.belmond.com/palacio-nazarenas-cusco/
