PS as all here surely know it takes EIGHT BITS to make ONE BYTE  Really? I thought a byte was defined by the number of bits required to encode a single character, and was dependent upon computer architecture. For example, in early Cray supercomputers a byte was 6 bits. 4 bit and 7 bit bytes were also fairly common back in those days. It's an octet or octad that is 8 bits by definition. |

Nowadays common use is bytes. The memory in your mobile, the line/link speed. At times it's not even clear if 1MB is 1,000,000 or 1,024,000 So for all normal people out there and if they are reading this topic and if they wonder if Gigabits was a typo, if someone tries to sell you 8 gigabits of memory you end up wondering why you can't store a complete movie  .
