On July 28 the Nongprue Police Station were tipped off about an imminent drug deal and quickly formed a team of investigators.
The informant agreed to take part and a delivery, by thirty-one-year old target, Mr. Wasan (aka Gift) Pookpratoom, was arranged at the Ekmongkol Village.
However, Pookpratoom seemed to smell a rat and made a late switch, changing the drop to the car park at Big C in South Pattaya.
But the cops were too smart for this and they quickly relocated to Big C and observed the suspect arriving in his Dark Blue Isuzu D-Max license no. 1 2642.
Twenty-two year Ms. Sunisa Chanpanya casually got out and appeared to be going about her shopping. Again the police were not fooled and moved to detained her. In full view of the driver, Pookpratoom.
He appeared to notice something was not quite right and tried to drive away, crashing into a police car as he did.
Officers opened fire and frightened shoppers ducked and dived beneath cars for cover. Others ran for their lives in fear.
After chasing round the car park officers managed to shoot the tyres of the Isuzu and it slid to a halt. Pookpratoom was arrested.
A search of the vehicle revealed 118 Ya Bah tablets, 4.37 G Ice.
Two daring officers were injured during the drama. Sub Inspector Pol Cap Ittikhom Boonkerd has a minor forehead wound and Pol Lt Chainyuth Sri-Udonthanantorn’s right wrist was cut open by a broken window and he leaned in the grab the suspect’s keys.
Pookpratoom has admitted to pushing drugs for a ‘long time’ and his supplier is located in Talad Thai, Pathumthani. He says he deals out to locals teenagers in Pattaya.
His girlfriend, Ms Sunisa, was tested positive for drug use but insists she doesn’t know how that happened. She also had no idea that her boyfriend was a pusher. In fact, she doesn’t know anything.
Both have been charged with drug distribution.
Thankfully no members of the public, going about their daily business, were injured. Although there was a queue for the bathroom shortly afterwards.
