Now listen again, can you hear the celtic (Irish) take, which was influential in the original and brought to the fore explictily in the Zeppelin take. Of course they did not mean to,(maybe they did) but that is fusion. And that is life.i

No peanuts? . Yet another food that has been farangised almost to the point of being unrecognisable from the original. Yeah, sadly I have to agree with you. Can't remember when I was last served anything that even vaguely resembled the real deal. Shame, done right it's one of my favorites, but I've pretty much given up ordering it. I'm lucky to live with as yet few tourists and expats. So food has not been adapted. I did see something on Royal Cuisine at the Palace. The teacher there said Thais have become lazy in how they cook. eg Too much sugar, I'm trying to get Mrs mosha to cut down on msg.

I am blessed. Lucky enough to be married to the best lady in Thailand, who is a great cook. We had a restaurant in Thaphae Road, CM, for a while which was mainly Issan style food. Used to get lots of people from Bangkok, came in every day while they were in town. Everyone loves her somtum, Thais are very particular about that dish, it is either really good or really bad. We eat a lot at home as my wife loves cooking home style meals. She does not use msg or sugar when she cooks for me, knows I don't like it. We do eat out sometimes, my favourite restaurant is in the back streets of Wororot Market, been in the same family for more than sixty years. The best and cheapest khoa soi that I have ever found. The food in Bangkok is not the same as the food in the north, Bangkok Thais will tell you that. The rule of thumb is not to eat in restaurants that have lots of foreign tourists, we only eat in places that serve mainly locals. Our favourite noodle shop is just off Loi Kroh. Sitting in there one day and these two hi-so's pull up in a brand new Merc, lady was dripping in gold and diamonds. Came in and ate the same as me, a 25 baht bowl of noodles.
