In a moment of madness, second bottle of wine, I decided to cook. Found my slow cooker. Started, garlic first of course, onions, of course and then the massaman paste, yes I cheat.
Not for today I told all, this is a slow cooker recipe.
Added the mushrooms this morning and let it stew a little more. Recipe I will not divulge, but in my humble opinion, that was one fantastic curry.

No peanuts? . Yet another food that has been farangised almost to the point of being unrecognisable from the original.

Where's the meat?
You should marinate it overnight.

Can't remember when I was last served anything that even vaguely resembled the real deal. Shame, done right it's one of my favorites, but I've pretty much given up ordering it.

For once I agree with every comment. I used a massaman paste which I found in Big C and then did my own thing, coconut milk ,mushrooms and beef. The marinating , no , I was using a slow cooker.
Yes the real thing can be found at Paradise (Seri) but not at Fatamah's , the one rgs knows, the other muslim food stall, near the coffee/tea booth. Love it , a once a week must. Mine, well it was outstanding, although I say it myself, but it was not ever meant to be the original, just enjoying cooking when stoned.

Do they do a decent Khao Mok Neua, too?

^^^ Not sure, I always ask for the massaman. They have great fish dishes too, some so spicy I cannot manage, but others that are outstanding. Also they often have whole grain rice, nutty and wonderful; when they don't have it I get a profound apology.

Yes they do, when entering Paradise dont take the main enterance, take the one to the RH side of it, go down the stairs to the food court and its the first rest on your RH side.

^^^ too be honest, as nice as it is, if anyone knows that area, they will know there are plenty of noodle stalls etc selling food just as good.
I eat there, only if we have been shopping there (we dont go out our way to go there), its amusing to watch the HiSo types taking away plastic bags full of the stuff.
Years ago my personal favourite was the place right opposite Prakhanong cinema.
Not mentioned, the nam gra jiap place right next to it.

I will share, I do my own thing, take a taste I know and play around with it; said I cheated used a Big C massaman paste, but that was just the start, then added my cooking technique, usually slowly fry onions and garlic in butter, add milk, slowly , to a liquid full of onion garlic taste. No need to marinate the beef, slow cooking and it will absorb the flavours. Set slow cooker on low and add the beef, check regularly and add spice to taste (you need many),Leave to stew, throw in some coconut milk and allow it to reduce. Taste and add spices; farang take as everything is not cast in stone. Adjujstements when it is brewed, peppers, salt ( I use little and never sugar); b-gger forgot the mushrooms , the last addition (no not the magic ones), wife found them in our early morning market. No pea nuts or potato, jasmine rice. Go ahead and try a new way and not be a dinosaur. Oh and I like Chuck Berry. He used European (Irish) music and fused it with African music, we call it rhythm and blues. How dare he use the white man's music!
