Dedicated to all those who served, in the Army that is. With a special mention for our CSM's, what would a company be without them.

Never made it to CSM, only got as far as SGT. To be honest I wish I would have turned down any promotions after Lance Corporal, as soon as you go higher you then have to start crapping on your friends.

Now a couple of clips dedicated to the men and women without whom no successful parade or march would never happen, the unknown back parade ground teams. I worked with them a few times on parade organisation and they are truly a breed of perambulating organising geniuses.
Gawd 'elp yer though if you got into this place in clips 3 Funnily enough the mention of the Garrison Commander at Colchester brought back memories of my great Grandfather who was the colonel in charge there for some years.

Well here is a memory for our very own Tony The fricken Tiger of his younger days!! I did my basic at Bassingbourne (as SirPolee is aware). Back then it was The Queens Division and camp life was very different from what is shown in that video. It was a lot harder back then but I loved the 42 weeks that I spent there. I also won my first boxing match there (happy days).

I was surprised that a Yank admits that the SAS is top and doesn't try making out that the Rangers are their match. Well done, a fair American who has not ceded to the brainwashing (do you fancy a bash at running your country?)

Your Drill Instrctor or the PTI? . Our PTI was Corporal Hyde (not 100% sure of the spelling) and he was the ex 3 forces boxing champion. He looked the size of Frank Bruno to me back then but I was only a 16 year old whelp then. Luckily he was assigned to our company as the boxing instructor (great teacher), I say luckily but I didn't end up sparring with him like my mate had to.

I was drafted and spent 14 months in the mortar platoon of Bravo company, 11PaInfBat GG. The GG stands for Garde Grenadiers. As part of being Garde some ceremonial functions are performed. Standing and standing still for hours needs practise and boy did we get practise. Once we first marched through Arnhem and following they put us in parade rest at the barracks. After some time I thought they'd forgotten all about us. Only one or two 'dropped' out.
In 1980 when then Queen Juliana receive King Juan Carlos on a state visit I stood with the others in an honour guard in front of the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
Similar to what you see in this clip from longer ago, 1966. The Brits have similar traditions.

... and I probably shouldn't open this much to the public, but then, I've got nothing to hide. At the ASK (literally Artillery Shooting Camp), just relaxing in-between

This is as far back as I could find but the memories of my passing out parade at Dartmouth Royal Navy College some 15 years earlier were revived .Forgotten how much time has gone by. Second clp was a bit before my time but not so much changed from my days there though

Knots I see. Did some sailing in the Netherlands on it's inland lakes but always struggled with knots. Also the wind of course.
Late 80-ish a collegue in Singapore took me sailing a Hoby Cat from Changi to the Causeway. The wind a bit varying. One moment of unattention, too late to let the mainsail go and I managed to capsize the boat. Luckily it's not difficult to get a Hoby Cat straight again.

Can I stand up now Sgt Bilko....can I can I? I know Shergar didn't win but you didn't have to put your house on it....I said it was just a hunch......
