Oh how lurvely. are you familiar with that forum Pattaya Lovers or Addicts or something like that? Join up, heard it was a good trollfest. A freakdoor poster used to post about his trolling forays on there masquerading as a ladyboy on the pull.

Never been there and don't think I ever will. Although my almost three year old son recently asked me to take him there "because they have a beach", how the hell he knows that I will never know but I hope he saw it on television. Have never had much interest in places like that, went to Nana a few times with Aussie mates when I first lived in CR with wife #1 but used to get bored with that and soon dragged them up north for more of a "cultural experience". You meet the worst type of people in heavily targeted tourist areas, in any country.

Jometein may be a different matter though even 40 years ago anyone with any sense swam in the hotel pools and not the sea. Having made one trip to Pattaya for one night a couple of years ago while I was getting a wheelchair lift installed I am an expert on the place. I still think there are places and times you do do not go in any city. If you wander around at 1am Pattaya has one thing to offer....trouble. During the day and early evening it seemed there were tons of places to eat well and have a nice quiet drink without too much trouble. My then 6 year old daughter stayed with me for a month in Pattaya 40 years ago and I liked the access to the food. Then if you wanted to escape the ripoffs you only had to go to second road. I think you go further now. Of course we did not go out to the night spots at one am on that trip. Just enjoyed the pool and walking on the beachfront.

You wont be pesterd by tailors touts, accosted by ladyboy pickpockets or viagra salesmen.

Spot on rgs, a great place good food not expensive and the natives are friendly. Bonus, it's about an hours drive from home if 'er what drives from the passenger seat'' is having a kip, if not well about an hour and a half.

Sometimes we drive down just to eat seafood, great little place opposite The Tide Resort, Muslim place we have been using for years. No double pricing or any of that crap, friendly people etc etc. A while back took a friend who had done the usual places, he said to me, this is exactly what me and the mrs want, why has no one told us of this place. Another place I love is Hat Laem Sing down Chan way.

^Sounds really nice, rgs.
I've never been to Pattaya and don't plan on it. I've been to many other islands and places in Thailand though. Even though I don't live in Thailand, I've been there countless times and love it every time. The touristy areas really are starting to annoy me though. It is good to get more off the beaten path suggestions as you said above.

Don't mind Jomtien for a weekend away, Pattaya less so. Fun place to party with my closest expat friend (girl from California), party all night on Walking Street, laughing, people watching and end it by a dip in the ocean back over in Jomtien with a bottle of bubbly.Early FEB then pass out back at the hotel. Patterz can be fun with the right crowd.
