On September 18, police entered the Bang San 1 Bar on Charoenrat Road, as part of a series of planned raids against illegal brothels in the city. They discovered that the restaurant that served late night food and had ‘beautiful waitresses’ serving drinks was in fact a front for a prostitution service they offered. Patrons could pay 1500 to 2000 baht to take a woman home with them, with the bar receiving 500 baht each time. www.chiangmaicitylife.com/news/brothel-restaurant-raided-by-police/

Whats the score with the soapy places in BKK since the junta took over? Surely they're all still in business? Donno - never been to a soapy in my life. ...................... IMO this raid was less to do with prostitution and more to do with late night opening. It's been as strict as hell in CM for a while. I don't miss Spicy or Zoe's - I did like Jack's Van, and particularly enjoyed Derm Derm and Tawan Daeng. Derm Derm was demolished ( shame, real shame ) as it fell withing the three hundred metre school rule, and even Tawan Daeng has been restricted to 1.00/1.30 a.m. Loih Kroh, the farang bars, John's Place etc - midnight. A few try to stretch it an hour but you can see them nervously waiting for the police to show up. There are a few "in the know," places but a couple of them at least are dens. CM nightlife is on life support - I think it's gone a bit too far.

I can see why many people are upping sticks for places like vietnam and not due to currrency exchange rates.
If there was concern regarding the 300 metre rule a time restriction would have been more appropriate IMO.
A few expats in a bar near a school in the daytime isn't as bad as drunken parents or neighbours back at home residence.
I would make an estimate 98% of them kids live further than 300 metres away from the school, so 300m v 1KM is no different in that sense.

It was your typical Thai restaurant/live music place. The crowd came mainly from the Engineering Faculty of CMU across the road. It employed around forty people, and was a well run business. And they razed it to the ground - shameful. I was at an anniversary party there they year it closed, took three Scottish guys with me. The place was packed, and I had selected a table near the stage and just as importantly, the toilet ( bad age you know ). It was 1,000 baht to reserve the table, and for that we got a bottle of whisky. I caught the entire bill that night as I had invited these guys out. After running down to 7/eleven to get one guy a bottle of vodka, the night began with free beer till 8.00 p.m. To be fair, we didn't go nuts on the free beer. The promo girls, who I know/knew turned up and my pals jaws started dropping. Here's one of them: Tiger, Asahi, Heineken, Cheers, and a few others - all with promotions, so they all got custom cos we are nice that way. Food a-plenty, and the best three live groups I've heard in Thailand - the last group were sensational. I think the night, including the vodka from 7/eleven, cost me 4,000 baht - maybe 4,500, all inclusive. And four drunken Scotsmen wandered out having witnessed a superb night. For 4,500 baht? Amazing.

^^ That girl is about 5 foot 8 tall - says the bane of her life is being taken for as a ladyboy. Hilarious one day on her FB feed she wrote - "All I'm looking for is true love." A young wag replied - "I'll give you true love, but I think I will pay for it for the rest of my life. eh, I've changed my mind" Wise boy.

I still talk to a couple of the girls - they keep me up to date where the best places are in CM - one sent me a photo of a foam promo she was at a couple of months ago. Says it was freezing and she's not doing it again.

"Brothel Restaurant" ? Jesus wept, what would happen if you asked them for a "doggy bag" ? (years ago in CR with wife 1st wife, at a restaurant in town, mentioned something about a doggy bag, she asked what it was so I told her. She looked at me in horror and told me not to do it because - "if you tell them that you are going to take their food home and feed it to a DOG !!! they will think you don't like their cooking".) FFS !

In some parts of the country that may be what you get....a hot dog cooked in chillie sauce...if you are lucky they take the fur off first. This report makes me smile at the thought of all the nice american bar owners here who think being a pimp does not apply to them.
