I recently marked my four year anniversary of moving from Thailand to Myanmar. In these last 4 years, I've made numerous trips back to Bangkok on visa runs, and on each occasion, I've made a travel video to go with it. This next one is thematically nothing new, but each trip is unique and different.

Eleven years ago today, I went out busking for the first time. I didn't need to. I only ended up 8 cents for the day.

It's the first day of Thingyan here in Myanmar, and what I am doing? Safe at home, watching movies, avoiding the water play? No, of course not. I've got 3 weeks off! I've rented a CRF250 and am exploring the mountains of Chin State and Sagaing Division! Fortunately, as Chin is very Christian, they aren't as fervent with the water throwing as they are elsewhere. First of many videos... There's a blog with lots more words and pictures too.

The blog is interesting Joko. Am I reading that correctly, 43 hours 517 km?

The blog is interesting Joko. Am I reading that correctly, 43 hours 517 km? That would be traveling at about 12 kph, wouldn't it? The roads up here are bad, but they're not THAT bad. That google insert there is missing a digit due to me trying to clean up all the alternate route it was showing me... and that's only for half the trip. As I noted, I'm going down roads Google doesn't recognize, so I had to "pencil in" the second half of that graphic. Even then, it's wrong. The first half, from Sagaing, through Chin to a town on the Chinlwin River called Mawlaik, that's only 871 km... All in all, I expect to travel about 2000 km over three weeks with about 60 hours actual driving time.

I don't normally produce videos out of order. In other words, I've made something from today when I've got 5 days to make before this.
But it's Songkran. Thingyan. Gotta post this while people are still hootin and hollerin outside my hotel window.

Great stuff, SK as I know it, could almost have been filmed with The Mon community here in Pak Naam, thankfully the pikey KSR types havent invaded.

As I tour via motorbike through SE Asia, the most common comment I get from locals is "you're traveling by yourself?". Incomprehensible for me to be doing such a thing. But I prefer traveling alone! No one to tell you when to stop, when to keep going, when to eat or sleep or anything. It's the freedom of the road. But, in a ways, I feel like I'm not traveling alone because I have my video camera. You all are coming with me. Join me.

Brilliant stuff, reminds me of the way Thailand used to be.
You are one lucky guy to be there right now, at the leading edge, boldly going blah blah blah, keep them vids coming, I love them.
Thanks, your efforts arent going unnoticed or unappreciated.

Eventually, I found myself at thousands of feet of elevation, riding down some gorgeous roads. As I’m a bit afraid of heights, what was somewhat disconcerting was the mile after mile of driving along roads where on one side, there’s a wall of rock, and on the other, there’s no guardrail and a steep drop of hundreds and hundreds of feet.
