She really was a great actress who when being interviewed displayed a totally different persona in the way she spoke but still projected a wonderful down to earth warm loving image. She and as Hilda with her long suffering Stan (Bernard Youens) in truth portrayed many a marriage of that vintage at that time.
Two wonderful entertainers who truly worked at their craft.
Many thanks Hilda or Jean for the entertainment pleasure you alone and then also with ''Stan'' or Bernard gave me and many others over the years

A real sad loss. Jean was probably one of the UK’s best actresses and certainly the best known at one time. I was never a ‘Street’ fan but I do know this lady was the biggest draw for a long time and I do recall watching the show occasionally just to see her portrayal of Hilda.
She had been in our living rooms for 23 years and people were so used to hearing her as Hilda that it was a major shock when after leaving the street she did an interview where she was not in character. She was so good at her craft that people actually believed that Jean really was Hilda.
RIP Jean and thanks for the memories

Hilda Ogden and The Duckworths were quality back in the day, when The Street was probably a bit more realistic. These days it seems to be a glamoured version of Jeremy Kyle.
I met Curly Watts a while back and he was a really nice chap, with a very interesting story about his addictions.

She also appeared on Last of the summer wine as Auntie Wainwright. You couldn't leave her shop without buying something..
