“The society of women is the element of good manners,” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said. China’s upper middle class ladies are proof of such assertion. Over the last few years, good manners, from etiquette to deportment, public conduct and party hosting, have come to the attention of many wealthy Chinese women, who, as the country’s new richest, but also as wives, mothers and socialites, are being rapidly exposed to a whole new set of social situations – and want to know exactly how to navigate them. Enter Institute Sarita, China’s first finishing school. Started by Swiss finishing school graduate and Hongkonger Sara Jane Ho in Beijing in 2013 together with socialite Rebecca Li, the school, which claims to offer a bicultural approach to etiquette, has been met with tremendous popularity over the last two years – so much so that Ho had to relocate it from a two-story space in the city’s modern Sanlitun area to a larger, renovated courtyard setting in a historic neighborhood, all the while opening a new branch in a colonial villa in Shanghai in May 2015. For about $15,000, well-heeled Chinese women can take part in 10- to 12-day courses, divided in either debutante or hostess classes, with lessons covering socializing tips, proper hotel manners, lingerie selection, introduction to French cuisine and noble sports, and how to pronounce luxury brands www.forbes.com/sites/mariannacerini/2016/10/17/etiquette-classes-for-chinas-wealthy-women-are-the-newest-status-symbol/#c043df6c5571

...unfortunately, I don't see many of their grads in bkk: you know, the ones involved in conversational shrieking across crowded bts cars while guarding large pieces of wheeled luggage right at the exits...I'd like to take a look at the school's curriculum...

The worst place to be is in a pharmacy that is being invaded by a hoard of delirious, medicine hunting Chinese tourists.

Thank you, it's meant to represent a Chinese tourist drinking a bottle of medicine. You know, to jazz up the nuance.

I am told that this first image represents a part of the ''shopping etiquette course currently being run for female Chinese tourists. The second image I am again told, is part of the training regime for Chinese gentlemen shoppers etiquette. The third image is that of the Chinese preteens participants who are attending the Chinese shopping etiquette course

^ Not sure what it is they are buying, but whatever it is they buys bags of it ! Must be either something they can't get in China, or something that is cheaper to buy in Thailand. Either way I would not mind betting the stuff is re-sold once it gets back to China. Like the powdered baby milk that is sent home from Oz, a big business these days. $$$$$$

And still we hear people talk about how the Chinese don't spend money.
They spend money on what is important to them, and they spend big.

Too bad spit isn't worth anything. That could become China's biggest byproduct. Too bad those little mounds of up-chucked beef grizzle and fish bones left on the tables and restaurant floors couldn't be collected and reprocessed to feed the poor.

Mother Mainland is one galaxy many planets. What goes on in the north does not go on in the south, what happens in the east is not followed by the west of China. HK ain't China, neither is Shanghai, different strokes, of course, peasants and drifters and migrant workers are everywhere. There's a business niche there I see. 15 k for 10-12 days is nice income.

What do they learn, to nod and bow and be submissive via visual cues? The discrepancy I notice is that a family who can afford to toss 15k for a week and a half in charm school is a family you'd expect to have children who don't need charm school. The nouveau riche .... yuk!

I found that the ladies I met were graceful.
In saying that, the majority knew foreigners in some capacity and had travelled.
Travel broadens the mind, as w all know.
